Just finished TNT @ Prime

    Still need some work backing up but I think I’m time I’ll get it.
    I’m thinking about going lease, does anyone know what the upfront cost are if any I should have tge 1st month?

    or should I do company at least through the winter? Also how long after upgrade does it take to actually get a truck?

    You better get time under your belt, before doing anything but holding the steering wheel. Want to bury yourself in this industry? Bite off way more than you can chew. You’ve no idea about the industry or running a truck/business, yet.

    After pullng boxes for 12-15 months (or more)--put in a request to transfer over to Prime's tanker fleet.

    You'll be A-MAZED at the improvement in the quality of your life....:) ;) :D

    It's mostly food-grade work--so if the recession is still going strong, you should stay busy there.


    As "ducnut" suggested above--stay away from any form of truck leasing/ownership, until you get some serious experience under your belt--and the business climate for such significantly turns for the better.

    Other threads here on the Forum have posts showing that life is getting very hard for truck owners, due to worsening economic conditions.

    I broke in at Prime on the flatbed side. If you don't have big plans to become an Owner Operator in the near future go tanker. The opportunities you will have going tanker once you get a year in will be massive compared to being just another scrub reefer driver. The only reason you should be anything other than a tanker driver at Prime is you plan on putting exactly 1 year in and going O/O somewhere else. Even then, only do it if you need flatbed experience.

    If you lease a truck from Prime and can't stay out for at least 7 or 8 weeks at time you're going to have a bad time. Those payments are LARGE and don't stop. Don't be fooled, when you do leave Prime if you're a lease driver they will charge you thousands to take that truck back. Prime has a massive online/youtube presence, don't listen To anything they peddle to you, everything about Prime is for Primes benefit and not yours.

    That said if you have no family or obligations you've got to go home to and can run like hell for a year strait you can make more money going lease.
    I don't regret breaking in at Prime, one mega is as good as another for that first year unless you choose like Western Express I guess. Be ####ing careful, dont get any tickets, make sure youll pass an inspection at all times.

    When freight is slow, who do you think sits around waiting for freight, the company driver whose truck is being paid for by the company, or the lease operator who still has to pay for that truck themselves? The company driver will get that load every time.

    Next up, as a lease operator, you are running a business. Rookies don't know nearly enough about the industry to lease a truck fresh out of school. Learn on THEIR dime, not yours. Then decide after a couple years if leasing or owning is right for you.
