Will I'm going for My drivers part of the CDL testing on the 15th of Oct. I'm doing everything Myself. I already pasted the written tests from the Texas DPS. This morning I got a call from Swift saying They will take me, They asked "What school did I go to" I replied "None " The Lady then told me, I would only have to do 6 weeks with a trainer.

I am pumped. The Terminal is in San Antonio, Texas. Which isn't that bad since I live in Wharton, Texas. Now I have read good things and bad things about swift, but what trucking company doesn't have both said about them at one time or another? I don't know why I didn't get My CDL sooner. I used to drive trucks in the Army back in the late 80'eds early 90"eds and I loved it.

Now that I'm 45 yr. and there isn't to many good jobs out there or places that will take someone of My age. I feel its time to get on the road. I also know I wont become a Millionaire doing this, But I will be able to make some good money to support My family and take care of them. Isn't that one of the main reasons to become a trucker?

Well wish Me luck and I'll try to get a running thread on My time with My trainer and Swift. If I can't get online to post till after Halloween or Thanksgiving, I wish Y'all a safe and Happy Holidays...

I am in the same boat, I have had my cdl for a few yrs, and got out of trucking for about a yr. I look forward to getting back in, I head to back to stevens in TX. in Nov. The best advice I got from my trainer was this , " treat this as a way of life and not a job " I had a regular job for yrs, and trucking just dosen't compare to a regular job. Up here in Mi, there isn't much for a 47 yr old either. Last time I was over the road, I lived off the lumper fees, and sent my pay checks home. I hope to do this again.
Good Luck with swift , and keep those doors shut, and wheels turning!

This is the reason I wanted to get My CDL earlier then waiting on a school... I won't have to do the 3 weeks of school, then go out for 4-6 weeks with a trainer. Now I just have to do 6 weeks OTRT, Plus I'll get paid a little more with swift ( At lest that is what I was told ) and don't have to wait to long for it (Going thru schooling first with no pay )
