Anyone else using this in the truck?

I got mine at Walcott Radio this afternoon. Been enjoying it! This thing likes to TALK! Had a 15 mile brief contact mobile to mobile after doing a quick and dirty install. Used the built in antenna on my Cascadia! Never thought that would get that far. Been using it with my stock cobra 29. Couldn't talk to the end of the street with that radio.

Just wondering if anyone else using one. Any hints? Opinions? Experiences, Good, bad, ugly?

I love mine. I wasn't sure I'd like a menu-driven radio but usually my settings all stay the same. I've had mine for a couple years or so.

This dude does a pretty good job detailing all the settings:

Be real careful running that into a stock antenna! The 6666 is a high powered radio along the same lines as a Stryker 655/955. Crappy antenna (Cascadia stock antenna) will probably let the smoke out of that radio in the near future! They are prone to the finals failing if a less than stellar antenna is used. I would avoid mounting it in the radio cubby up top because the heat sink isn't very good. They will get hot if you "ratchet jaw"! Heavy duty velcro and mount on top of the dash! 20210926_142756.jpg
Different radio but just to give you an idea. Mount my 6666 the same way!
Put a decent antenna system on your truck and also don't power that radio off the stock radio feeds.
I hope you didn't have Walcott tune it up because it's not necessary.
The 6666 is a #### nice radio and with a proper antenna system you will enjoy it!

    "...Yours will be much noisier..."

How do you know he didn't or won't have Holy water sprinkled on it like yours?

Understood about the stock antenna. SWR is good at 1.2/1 on 19. But your right that it's not designed for "high power". I need to get a good pwr/service meter to check to see what it's actually putting out on AM. The power meter in the radio has a moderate swing when I dead key, then a wide swing on modulate so I'm thinking the dead key is probably 15w but don't know what the modulation is swing to.

I had an interesting experience with Walcott when I purchased it. I'm glad I did my research before I bought the radio. Ive been thinking about getting one for a month or so so watched a bunch of vids a and read up a bunch on it..

I had stopped in just to see about getting the drivers mirror mount got the Cascadia. Noticed they had a AT-6666 sitting on the shelf. Price was a bit higher than others but I figured what the heck, might as well grab it. Told the clerk that's what I wanted. He quoted me the price then told me it would be more to "do the cb conversion". I told him it didn't need a conversion to work on CB as it's software driven. He swore up and down it needed the conversion done in the shop. Told him exactly how to convert it via the radio itself. He denied again. The. I started watching him closely. Told him to connect it to power and I'd show him. He tried to get out of that. Then I told I wouldn't buy the radio unless I could see it powered up. He knew the jig was up then. He powered it up and I showed him the procedure to do the conversion. He knew how to do it already but was trying to jack me out of an unnecessary conversion cost. I'd love to play poker with him...lol

I used to trust Walcott but no more.

Lol yeah, that was the first thing I did. Can't stand Roger beeps either

I do know my truck is electrically noisy. At full gain on RF, I get s8 across the entire spectrum. Have to run with the gain at about 40% to keep the noise down. Had the same issue with my Cobra 29. This truck has so many computers and the 1200w inverter that it's just a noise maker all by itself...lol. not sure if there's any sort of adjustments or additions like ferrite chokes on the power cable to get it out. Any advise on that?

Can't watch the full vid til I get home. It's 90 minutes! ATT would send a hit squad after me if I streamed that video at once...

A good YouTube video regarding antenna install on a Cascadia was done by @craig_sez.

Do try to stay away from the center load coily type antennas! Better off using a top loaded fiberglass antenna tilted forward.
As far as the God awful noise these trucks make a quick, easy and ,unfortunately, expensive way is one of these speakers.

They work really well for background noise and I consider them worth the investment.

    Good Luck!
