As promised, here's an update on my Swift experience.

Well, I just got back from Millington yesterday afternoon.
It was a rough couple of weeks but, in all honesty, it wasn't nearly as bad as some let on.
Aside from dealing with a helluva bad cold, I had a blast.
The instructors were cool and the students seemed to be decent guys (and a few girls).
Yeah...it was extremely face paced and you learn fairly quickly if you've got what it takes to drive a truck, but that's sort of the point, isn't it?
Overall, I had a positive experience and would recommend the school to anyone who's serious about this line of work.
Next up for me is a week in Columbus doing road training and testing out for my CDL.
I leave next Monday but, until then, I'd be happy to answer any questions from wannabes Millington bound.

You're not a trucker until you get two+ years of experience. Until then, you're a road hazard driving 61 to 65 on major highways depending on your company.

Ifind the road hazards are the super truckers who think everyone else is in their way and that they think they know everything. I dont care how long you are on the road if you are smart you can learn everyday.

What's interesting about your comment is that according to your own profile, admittedly, you have 0-1 years experience....so what you're saying is, you're not a trucker. Aaaaaah, ok. Got it! Thank you for the clarification. Whew! For a minute there I thought you were being hypocritical or something.

I wish you a great deal of success with Swift, really I do...and who knows my husband may end up working for them if push comes to shove, lol, this is his last day of CDL school here in Columbus and we've gotten a few teasing calls from companies but no solid hiring offers yet. It's kind of un-nerving when you're coming down the wire and it's crunch time and the companies know they have their pick of players....it's like dodge ball all over again, "Pick me! Pick me!" While the team captains are looking at everyone BUT you! lol

Anyway, all humorous commentary aside, I grew up here in the Columbus area and I know Swift and their reputation well and yes, their school is great...but everybody loved Kindergarten- right? lol Dang in Hawkeye can't you ever be serious?!) It was getting past kindergarten that wasn't so fun...the big kid stuff. The teacher that we didn't mesh so well with, the school yard bullies we tried to hide from, the creepy cafeteria lady we swore gave us the evil eye, (I swear she really did have something out for me....) Swift is a lot like that for a lot of people. I am *not* saying it's like that for everyone....some people are like ducks and water...unphased. God love 'em! I wish I had that skill! (And I am convinced it is a skill...an Olympic skill that deserves medals of bronze, gold and platinum medals. My mother would have many of them) But many of us are not so blessed....that's why Swift has a pretty good turn over rate.

So, take care of yourself. Be willing to ask questions, defend yourself, say no if you need to, always keep your options open and have a good attorney....I'm just saaaayiiiin'. Go in this thing with optimism and an open mind and start every day with a prayer of hope and end every day with a prayer of gratitude and if you're not religious well....I'll pray for you. LOL

All the best to you! :-D
