I know those early e models liked to leak oil around the front gear case IIRC, Id pull the valve covers to see what kind of wear you have on the camshaft and followers, I also like to do the Bottle test to check for combustion gasses getting into the coolant. Other than that when you get the chance Id have someone plug into your ECM to see what flash fille you have. Don't ever take it to cat to get any work done they will update your file to a crappy low NOX file. When you have the $$ i would invest in getting a custom file put in, it will pay for itself very quickly.
Thats about all i got, Good luck out there my friend, Maybe one day we will run into each other out here, Ill remember the truck. -
My Uncle had a 1968 White Freightliner Cabover
I rode with him in that a few trips all over the Midwest and up and down the east coast humping furniture. He was a Bed Bugger -
Remember them, hell I still drive one. My log truck is an 88 flc with a b model cat. lol I usually only run it in the winter, but ran it a lot last summer too. It don't look like I will run it much at all this winter though. At least I told my logger, not much so he is rigging his own truck up and hired a driver.
I have an E model in my 96 W9, I have a friend that was field service for cat, He didn't know any good files to put in mine, but I had him put all original numbers back that it came with from day one, and it does good enough, and I get better mileage than most running north with it.
I take that back, my FLC is an 87.Last edited: Aug 18, 2019
