Just got my CDL, then got a speeding ticket in my car. Should I go to court?

Hey man DO get an attorney .I got a ticket in a company straight truck for being a bit to enthusiastic with my speed(83 in a 65).Hired an attorney got it reduced to a "faulty equipment" with no points.Never went to court. I live in NC.Went through a speed trap in Mecklenburg county ,VA and got one there.Same deal. Best $250.00 I ever spent for both of them.Oh and since then I have backed off on the hammer and no problems since then. Good luck

My lawyer and the traffic court judge both said the Patriot Act will not allow a ticket to not go on your record. I used a double negative, so stated another way....the ticket will stay on your record, but at what level depends on the judge and the cop that wrote the ticket. Prior to the Patriot Act, some states allowed drivers to have judicial diversion, where the judge would void your ticket if you went to traffic school for 3 hours and paid a court fee. The Patriot Act disallowed this option for Class A CDL holders. I had not heard of judicial diversion until I moved to TN from Iowa.

My lawyer called the cop and got it reduced down to 3 mph over. You may be able to get it reduced from 15 mph over the limit down to 3 or 4 mph over. That is the best you can hope for, unless your judge does not follow the Patriot Act. Which some traffic judges do not. I got my ticket reduced from 20 mph over the limit to 3 mph over, and I was most happy with the outcome. I did not intend to speed (I thought I was going 5 mph over the limit) and have not had a speeding ticket for 30 years. I paid the attorney more than 5 times the cost of the ticket.
