If you want to go with a big company, most are going to say go back to truck driving school, even though all they really do is train you enough to get what you already have.
However, you have a seasoned CDL A, which should allow you to work for the small companies. Find a company with 10 or less trucks, and be ready to hear some say no. Be persistent, and you'll find one. Look at the condition of the trucks, vs how old they are as far as equipment goes. A lot of emissions issues in the last ten years have made older trucks much more valuable than in times past. Good luck

Thanks for all the advice. I have looked into maverick and TMC and both seem pretty good for my situation. I'm considering these two companies. I am sure all have good and bad with them but does one stand out above the other?

Sounds good, you will have to keep us posted as to how things are going. If you have this question now, I am sure your experience will help another driver down the road.

I have no idea what Chinatown is talking about, refresher course through Maverick?? Never heard anything about this program or course or whatever.... and never seen anyone professing to be in or training in such a program. Just sayin....
But, call recruiting, they are the ones who will have the answers about such a refresher course. I am assuming that this means DRIVING refresher course. (Flatbed securement training and/or testing is mandatory for any who wish to drive Flatbed for Maverick)

Maverick does not have a CDL school/training program.

Hey man, welcome to the forum!

If you are making the leap back into the industry then yes you will have to take an expensive refresher course to get back in! Though if you go with a smaller company (which I highly recommend) you will most likely avoid having to take a refresher course. They may put you with another driver though for a little bit but this will probably actually be beneficial to you since you haven't driven in awhile.
