Let me correct your post for you...
At [insert *any* training motor carrier] you can always get someone worse as a trainer...

Actually, Prime does care who is in the trainer program. You'll get a chance to critique his behavior once your done - and they do pay attention to recurring comments on bad habits.
awbro Thanks this. -
Went through PSD instructor issues. Then tried to ride it out in TnT. Lasted a week before I warned the FM by email there was issues. Then when we hit Springfield I went and asked for a new trainer. Should have pulled the trigger when PSD was up..
Downshifting: its a 3 step dance. Pace of counting 1,2,3. 1 tap clutch 1/4 in while bringing shifter into neutral, 2 tap gas for rpms and keeping the rpms up 3 tap the clutch and put it into next lower gear. Forget the brake, it will throw the dance off. Brake to the point of downshifting when slowing down outside of going up a hill. Hills use the speed rule. You lose 2 mph in the dance so at 47 start. At 37 start. Find the rythem and then practice tap tap tap while driving. And relax or you'll mash the gas over rpms you need.
Also, while hes on phone do a mental pretrip to distract you from him and help you pass the pretrip. -
He is a good teacher and that is all I care about... really...
Everything about this career change has been very difficult. .. the only thing I have not done is quit. First I went to Swift and that was a very strange experience... they ended saying I committed an unsafe act during my road test... but it had more to do with me handing out an anonymous. .. critique ....They requested ... and getting booted...THANK goodness or I would be working there... sitting all the v time w a broken down jalopy of a truck or trailer ... stRting out at 26 cents a mile.
Then I persevered and went to the craziest school... it was a mess... the lead instructor was drunk all the time... and on and on
I like my trainer... he does his job... that he is filthy pig and acts like an ignorant red neck..
I chuck it to... its the industry... once I have my truck I ll be by myself... and have a laugh...
My friends are getting a kick of ppictures of his piss bottles and the interoor of the truck.. -
That's a good attitude to have. Look past where you're at now, to where you'll be when you upgrade and you're on your own!

Its quite memorable...for sure. ..

The truth? My trainer was a jerk. He really didn't have enough experience to be training, and after the first 20,000 miles (I had to do 60k with him) I decided that a lot of what he did was a good example of what not to do. But... he did a lot of things right too. And when I got to a point where I needed some help, he was there. I was a memorable experience, and one I can say I don't ever want to repeat! Nothing like the look on his face when we got forced up the middle of downtown Newark on a Friday night... nothing but big buildings on the left, and an el with 12' 3" clearance signs on the right. Hey Frankie! Wake up!! LOL!!!

Well got into an argument with my trainer the other night, because I was going 50 in high winds while he was yelling on the phone, and when he asked why I was going so slow, I replied it's windy, I have you yelling in the phone in Spanish, and 50 is what I feel comfortable going because of the wind...he got pissed made me pull over, and switch seats...any way we talked it out yesterday, and at first he said everything is a distraction at this point, then said he was being loud and distracting to keep me from falling asleep.....any way we talked it out, and when he started doing it again I said I don't mind if you talk in Spanish on the phone, but don't yell or be loud, as it makes me feel distracted to a point of being unsafe...he agreed, and he gave me an open ended option to get off the truck if I want to, but were going to try to be tolerant of each other until I test out
