2012 Peterbuilt and a 2019 Mac split axle. No headache rack, but two tool boxes on the trailer. I learned being a driver on my own. I'm not taking a job with someone else making me eat out of a gas station working like a bum behind a wheel. I got into my own authority ASAP and still figuring out the process to get others out of your wallet i.e. freight factoring, brokers. I'm buying a pre emissions non ELD truck ASAP to get back on the paper logs. I can easily figure out how to strap freight. Spent 12.5 years in operations management at FedEx Freight. I do always spend time looking at flat bed loads and how it's tarp & chained. Also videos.

I didn't say I had a lot of money. Trucking is a hussle game. You can make great money if you want to work hard and get everyone out of your wallet.

I disagree. By Jan 17 2019 it'll be the 2nd full year of being a driver. I went from knowing nothing to owning two trucks and a trailer with my own authority. Just hopefully I can build a relationship with a warehouse or shipper to get away from brokers. Trucking is a business.

Thanks! How long have you been a driver before you owned your own truck and authority?

If only it were that simple my friend. Even if you had nothing but direct contract freight you'll still have more people than you could possible imagine in your pocket. You'll see. Paid your FHUT yet? UCR? IRP? IFTA? I'm just getting warmed up. That list seems to never end. You see that gross but it's what you get to keep when it's all said done that matters and if you're lucky it'll only be about 33 percent. There's more money made off the truck vicariously than the truck makes itself! Yeah, there's money in trucking but there's better money in other things. Independents are being systematically rubbed out financially. Play the game. Get in and get out.

I've been driving for 21 years, leased on for 1.5 years and I've had my own numbers since June of this year.

Well this 'idiot' started being a driver 1.5 years ago with the agenda only to learn trucking. This 'idiot' now owns his own equipment and authority. This 'idiot' will own a 2nd truck before he has been a driver for 2 years. This 'idiot' employees 3 people who 2 make six figures and a the part timer makes 50k ... So, how long you been a driver? Where you at now?! :)

No! No! ... Example I have a neighbor who has been a trucker all his life. He is in his late 40's. He doesn't deal with brokers and doesn't waste a single penny out on the road. He even owns his own yard and garage. He'll be retired before he is 50. Trust me there are smart drivers out there that are very profitable my friend.

IFTA isn't a big deal.. ? You pay IFTA even if you are leased onto someone else's authority. UCR? That's like $60. IRP? I have someone who keeps my compliant with my plates. I rather educate myself with knowledge than live in fear giving people 10-20 or 30% of what I make because I'm too scared.
