What’s the point? I could take any 7th grader and have them study the book and pass the test, a test doesn’t mean you know anything. I have my hazmat, I pass the test every 4 years but I know nothing about it.

So I assume you disagree with our entire education system as well? That's the only logical conclusion here since that's exactly how everyone in the entire country learns from college all the way down to the first grade. We read and test. This is called "learning". Something is better than nothing IMO. Setting someone loose with nothing is incredibly foolish and puts everyone at risk.

Passing a test doesn’t mean a person knows anything practical. Regurgitation of paper knowledge doesn’t mean working, applicable skills.

I agree but without a trainer/teacher holding you by the hand and applying a physical test to prove working knowledge; what else is there? A written test fills the gaps and certainly beats a blank.

Where do you suggest to get the chains and 4x4's? I was thinking to purchase my binders and chains at Farm and Fleet.

You can't learn via 3rd person. Roll up your sleeves and do it with adequate informed understanding of what needs to be done.

Actually I do, there’s a lot of people even teachers that complain that we “teach to the test”. A 25 question test written by a committee of people that have never secured a load doesn’t prove anything except you read the requisite information. All that test will do is be a pain in the rear end for those of us that know what we’re doing.

I agree that our education system is a farce. However, there needs to be something in place and since there isn't any sort of hands on practical testing for these endorsements (other than the actual license itself) should be in place. If the test was based off the FMCSA Securement Handbook that would be leaps and bounds better than what we currently have. I'm shocked that you think it be would A-OK to throw someone behind the wheel without even a written test. While a written test isn't really enough per se, it certainly beats nothing at all.
