Great thread. I'm planning on heading out that way in a few weeks and all this info has been real helpful.

Here is an update. Now that I have been hauling oil for a few weeks, I can attest that the money is there.....if you bust your hump......and when everything falls into place....which it does sometimes. Now my boss is hiring more drivers and starting to slipseat and that spells trouble. Even though I am not 100% as efficient as I will be, I am already feeling the lack of production, which equals less income, from that. In 14 hours I can do between $400 and $500 per day. In 12, maybe $275 to $350. I feel like I owe my boss for giving me this shot so I am going to stick around a while and make us both some money, but I can probably make just about as much in Oklahoma if I have to slipseat and that is a lot closer to home without dealing with the brutal ND winter.

IMO... slipseat is suited best for those are lucky enough to have jobs close to their home... or those willing to actually relocate. For the rest of us... slipseating sucks. I want a sleeper truck with steady work, no housing to pay, fridge and micro in the truck..stock it up and go. I've done very well over the last few months doing just that. But, like you, things are changing. I'm still in the sleeper truck, but I'm not as proud of my employer as I once was. I'm looking around now...but I'll give it some time yet...could just be a hiccup.
Btw... with the right company, you can avg well over $300/day in OK... I did. -
I did too and you still can. J and L in Shattuck oklahoma doesn't slips seat. I was there a few months ago and they needed mud haulers. Run till the rig is empty. Last week I put in 110 hours. Worked 7 days straight. They let me because it was my last week.
The rigs weren't coming back fast enough so I actually went back to ND, but now I'm in Colorado. -
We were delivering to the Arnett lact. Company pulled out, gave us the option of ND or CO. I chose CO. So...they still sent me to ND for 3 weeks... and tried hard to get me to stay. I finally told them I was headed south with em or without em...lol. So, they got me to CO (Cheyenne, WY actually, but the oil is coming out of CO). This has potential, but so far it's a lot of lost potential. They are really dropping the ball a LOT... and its cutting my paycheck. I'm scheduled to fly back to OK next week (where my personal vehicle is still sitting). I'm going to take some hometime and re-evaluate. There are several companies that we worked with out of Arnett that I may look at. I have a year of crude experience so I feel good about my options.

Well, I gave notice today. I was trying to get a position as a flow tester but it doesn't look like that is going to pan out so I will be heading for OK in a few days. I am going to try to finish out the month, but the first day the truck breaks down AGAIN keeping me from working or if I can't get a dispatch again, I will probably head south. I think a big change is taking place in ND now, probably as the boom dies and everything moves into the production phase. Oil companies are cutting hauling rates, some by as much as 20 percent so you will see a lot of smaller companies go belly up soon I think. Can't say I will mind seeing ND in my rear view mirror a last time. There are plenty of good folks up here, but plenty that will stab you in the back to (in their mind) get ahead too.

Talked to a guy today...he said MBI was paying $34/hr in ND for crude haulers. He didn't elaborate and I didn't ask. He said they were looking for 100 drivers.
-
Lol, I am currently working for an MBI contractor and unload alongside MBI company drivers daily. Their starting pay is $23/hour and they charge $800 per month for their housing if you use it. I am not an MBI fan. I have seen them throw contractors under the bus for things that were the fault of company employees not the contractors.
