Truck drivers are good for that. :biggrin_25525: I know. I've been accused of it in the past.
Start a new thread discussing the cell phones or what ever the topic is.

Leave DB's thread for his tales of dumbassedness. I like the entertainment.
Usually we don't try to reign in off topic discussions, but we try on this one.

    Thanks guys.

    Stupid things, lets see....

    Let's start with Log books.

Hey Dieselbear, how many versions of the "Local Log Book exemption" have you had thrown at you over the years?

    "100 miles, 150 miles, 200 miles, 500 miles...."

"As long as I am back within 10 hrs, 15 hrs, same day..."

"I'm Local - I just stay within the 4-state area..."

"As long as I don't go out of state..."

    "As long as I'm empty..."

Lots more, but I can't think of them right now. I need to write them down sometime.

Something stupid I saw last Christmas.

    Fuel nozzle 1.jpg

Driver had no idea he had this nozzle hanging out. Funny thing was, the truck stop did not even want their nozzle back. I guess they will just charge the guy's fuel card.

    Respectfully, I ask this question:
Did you ask the driver his/her destination or purpose?

Please correlate your statement indicating the driver was "stupid" with the quote below:

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Handbook
    February 2011
    J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc.

    DOT Interpretations---§395.8
    Page 531
I understand this is a very narrow interpretation of "off-duty" driving. For instance, it is not specifically spelled out whether a driver may be off duty and drive to Walmart, an adult book store or his girlfriend's house...that his wife doesn't know about. How would these destinations fall under this interpretation? Does the driver have to be "on-duty" driving to get a porn movie...but not to go to McDonald's?

Does Mississippi have a different interpretation of "off-duty" driving than FMCSA?

    Thank you for your input.

I look forward to more of your stories.

I can't remember how many versions I have heard in the last 11 years, but it seems I have at least one a day tell me he's local or exempt when he is not. Had one yesterday driving roughly 100 air miles, he was just under the window. I ask for his log book, he tells me "I'm the boss. I'm not working." I ask, what the heck are you doing now? "I'm just driving this back to the yard. My driver,....well I'm helping him out because he was sick. I never work. I drove the load down and I am dead heading back to the yard." I asked how do you maintain your companies hours of service? "By logbook."

Interestingly enough Query Central showed numerous inspections on this "boss" who had just been inspected about 500 miles away from where I had him stopped just 6 days prior. Same fella had a wreck in April driving the same truck I had him stopped in. Maybe the compliance review that is getting ready to occur can help him understand the hours of service regulations. Oh....I forgot, he was trying to play brain teaser with me on all the regulations. I did a level I on him which found 25 violations, 8 being out of service on the power unit and towed unit.( BRAKE VIOLATIONS, TO INCLUDE BRAKE MEASUREMENTS, SHOES, SPRING BRAKES WITH NON MANUFACTURED HOLES IN THE HOUSING, BRAKE HOSES, CRACKED FRAME ON TRAILER, AND 2 BROKEN TORSION BARS) Out of all the violations, he wanted to argue that he didn't need rear ID lights or side marker lights. I asked him how long has he been driving a truck. "I've had my CDL for 3 years and I know what is needed and what is not."

Funny, go sit your arse out on that lot have have road service fix your truck and don't drive nowhere for 10 hours.:yes2557:
