This happens all the time and I seem to get at least 2 or 3 a month. But had a driver that gives me a medical card. Everything filled out but I notice whiteout on the expiration date year and issue year. Then it has "12" and "10" written over the white out. After closer examination I was able to see it was originally issued in 2004. The card originally expired in 2006. A quick call to the doctor confirmed my suspicions. Got my subpeona to obtain the driver's medical card records, heading to the doctor in the morning.

A few things come to mind as I read this thread:
Great thread ( spent the better part of the last 10 years on forums and this is one of the best threads ever LOL).
Can a LEO, by law, disclose stops in the cyber world before someone is convicted? (conclusion=who cares! LOL Its a good read).
I have reached a point in my career were I truly feel like a professional truck driver. Weird.... since I am now in the process of looking for a new job and trying to walk away from the industry cause my stuper-visors are making my life miserable as a trucker.

I never had problems with "da-bears" even thu, in my time as a trucker,
I ran a poe by accident ( end result was a warning),
won a 3500lbs o/w ticket (end result was the company paid since they load me at my warehouse),
and dropped my pop in my lap and accidentally swearved into the hammer lane as I was cleaning my lap .....and in the process ran TWO (yes 2 not one but two!!!) marked trooper cars in to the shoulder.

They were just minding their own business and going some were and here is my big ### with a 53 footer swerving into their lane and pushing them into the shoulder. LOL EVEN THEN they cut me a break! After they came to the cab and checked me and my paper work out and I told them what happened and I apologized for the scare and told them I must be the most unlucky driver for swerving right as they were going by, They cut me a break and gave me a warning. It was a honest mistake and they both saw a fresh big gulp in my lap and the floor and took pitty on me LOL

This is one of those stories I tell ever time I am at a bbq and someone asks for a good trucker story. LOL MY son and wife said if they ever hear it agin they are going to ban me from bbq's LOL But its as true as it gets.

Point is.....as I read your posts....

I have noticed that in life if you give courtesy and respect you usually get it in return and when leos are involved they some time cut you slack if you aint a pos when you talk to them.

Good thread and thanks for sharing. I knew you guys dealt with garbage but never could imagine it was this crazy. Now I know why I have been cut breaks in the past, because I am a professional truck driver and they see that and understand we all make mistakes. :biggrin_25517:

    Hats off to you Bear.

I actually just renewed my physical a couple days ago and they did not give me a card only a long form. They said Indiana no longer gives cards that they require us to always have our long form instead. You know of any other states doing such?

Long forms are for the file at the terminal. They typically do not show date of expiration, which would be required roadside to be a valid medical card. Short forms (cards) are we need roadside.

Scalemaster, so what is a driver supposed to do in a situation like 379 was talking about? FWIW, this is NOT the first time I have heard this.

If you don't have the medical card because they aren't issuing them, but you do have the long form that should suffice. If it does not, then there are some laws that are conflicting and something is going to have to give.

Also, you state that long forms don't give an expiration date. Sorry, but the ones that I have received have the date of issue on them! Now that should not be too hard to figure as to when they expire.

Expirations vary from three months to two years. I can see SM's point.

Long forms show date of examination.

Medical cards are good for a maximum of 2 years. I have seen them expire in as little as 30 days. The doctor makes the determination on how long they are good for, up to 2 years. There is no way roadside I can know how long a medical card is good for, based on the date of examination only.

Sometimes there is a short form with expiration date attached at the very end or back of the long form. That is what should be cut out and carried with the driver.

    Big Don Thanks this.

Take a new blank card with you and have the doctor fill it out.
