I thought the same thing. So far everything has been run of the mill stuff. All most everyone I have contacted the with in the last week has been very professional. One local driver that drives a very small port-o-john truck had a attitude he could have stuck in one of the ports he was hauling. But beyond him, just normal everyday log, and equipment issues. In my opinion, and again this is just my opinion, CSA hype or fear has caused a lot of folks to try and get their issues straight before they hit the road. I know the people I work around and me have had the same conversations the last few months because we see a difference. Good, bad or indifferent it appears that the stuff we are used to seeing on the highways are now becoming the exception and not the standard.
Just some of the stupid things I see

Its ok DB, there are still plenty of ignorant hard headed cdl operators out there that have yet to make your aquaintance. Comforting thought huh?
-
Oh, there will always be plenty of folks out there to give DB and I items for this thread...

Like the guy I had yesterday that was overweight, way over hours, not registered for this state, and had several other equipment problems. He was yelling at me, telling me I just lost him his job.
I tried to explain to him that I was just playing the cards he dealt to me. He lost his own job.

It's always "some other dude's fault" with some people.

Yeah, If these #### DOT cops would just realize the rules dont apply to some of us.

One of your brothers in CO had some fun today DB, US 287 and about 8 of us all in a line behind swift goin 60-62 in a 65. Perfect sun position, can see the shadows of all the trucks lined up 20 ft out in the field to right, no question it's a long, tight line. Guy behind me decides after tailgating for about 5 miles, he's gonna make a run for it. 2-lane....7-8 trucks....what could go wrong? I had about as much as space in front of me as anyone, and it MIGHT have been a full truck length(still to close for an "oh ####" moment, I know) just enough to ease in and out as speeds ahead of me fluctuate. Sure enough, he doesn't even make past me without nearly taking my hood off, when he swings back in to avoid hitting a trooper head on! He caught on up, and wouldn't be surprised if they're still there inspecting every bolt
Instant karma is rare, but oh so satisfying. If you can't handle being stuck in line behind a swiftie on a 2 lane for 30 miles or so like everyone else, you ain't got what it takes.dieselbear and DL550CAT Thank this. -
You know my first thought is, "Why?" Why would you risk that manuever. 99% of the time nothing good will come out of that scenario. Thankfully no one got hurt this time. I've seen similiar scenarios where someone is killed or seriously injured. Had a 18 wheeler wreck today. I get there he says "I turned the wheels....but the truck kept going straight." It was a curve on a turn lane road with no shoulder. A safe speed at best is 25 or so. Which in this spot is posted 25. I go and look at the roadway marks. Truck was on the opposite side of the road going into the curve and carrying to much speed. Driver could have turned all day long, the truck was going straight. Destroyed the truck into a woods. Load went everywhere and the driver's standing there with his hands in the air stating he didn't know what happended. Like scalemaster said, he gets mad with me because I cost him his job. That's right buddy. I was driving this thing, lost it going around a corner and hit the trees. It didn't help he was at 15 hours driving since his last good 10 hr break. That was my fault as well. But that's the problem with society today, it's always someone else's fault. No one can take responsibilities for their own actions.
misterG, Hammer166, Injun and 1 other person Thank this. -
Now all we have to do is educate
the shippers / brokers / dispatchers / receivers / general public and all their brothers, cousins and uncles about how this CSA enactment is changing the way the trucking business is run:smt079. It is costing us more to be compliant
, we need more places to park, our delivery schedules might need to be revised, and so on. Times are changing
, we drivers understand, but the rest of the world still needs to be educated, and adjustments made as needed:smt017.

If they did, you'd be out of a job.
