Just some of the stupid things I see

    if I got shot and peed on for every time I got to daydreaming or whatever, I would perpetually smell like an outhouse. just because I was on cruise control for a bit doesn't mean I'm am a horrible driver/person. A good LEO will evaluate the whole scene once he talks to the driver. now that he has talked to you he has a pretty good idea if you are impaired or have something going on, or if you had trouble controlling your vehicle etc. I know that being honest has paid off for me a couple times. Honesty does not extend to telling exactly how fast I was going when he didn't get a lock on me:) we both knew I was over. In my case though at that time of night I could easily have been a drunk coming out of the bar. Pulling me over and stopping me let him know I was ok, just having too much fun

    mind you I once got a ticket from a state trooper because I accidentally turned off the switch for my trailer clearance lights. I thought that was cheap and lame. all he had to do was say great, problem solved have a good day. obviously when you have everything else on, its not likely you left them off on purpose

    It is seriously scary these days....how many of these so called professionals in big trucks are complete idiots....it really is.

    And then there's ECU51, who seems to think nobody deserves a break, regardless of circumstances. Without any other solid details other than a truck was travelling at 80mph, he decides the guy needs a ticket. There is no mention of how far over the limit he was going or what else was going on.

    In most cases, officers know there is a reason they are given discretion and they know how to use it. And, there are reasons many of us drive trucks rather than enforce law. Thank goodness.

    Ahhh Ms Swift,I guess you didnt see my point(as usual),,,If it was the "discretion" of the officer in this case(to which he didnt even say if he did or not,nor did I say he should)
    I asked the question,,,You pull over a guy DOING 80 and in your words "there is no mention of how far over the limit he was,,,

    OP pulled him over so what difference does it make??? he got pulled(So obviously the driver was over A limit ,,,CORRECT ???
    Otherwise the reason for pulling truck over is a moot point

    Then The driver admits he wasnt paying attention,"To This and that",,,and just because he was truthful the OP would cut him a break

    Now im smart enough to realize he is talking about a scenario(not an actual event)(shoot IDK maybe it did happen before),,point is, I asked,,This is the person you give a break???

    That's the way I always am, and never had a problem till that incident with the knives sending me to jail back in July. Sometimes I get let go, sometimes I get the form and manner ticket cause I have trouble with my A.D.D. getting myself to do the redundant parts of the book daily. Always current to duty status but frequently hours not totaled, milage not copied over from my notebook, few small things. I always tell em straight off I have a problem with it, and workin on it, but don't use it as an excuse, it's just the way it is and doesn't absolve me of the responsibility.

    It was 15 over. And I have given numerous breaks to drivers that don't try and BS me, or make an excuse or lie about this and that. I was that way when I worked the road and dealt mostly with cars, years ago. Hell one evening in summer of 1998 just before dark I got a crotch rocket on a 2 lane road at over 115 mph ina 50 mph zone. I hit the shoulder threw the lights on and the bike hit the shoulder immediately and stopped. Guy was actually a CDL holder, class A that ran local. He manned up and couldn't stop apologizing. He told me he just wanted to see what it would do. Granted, there was no one on the road for miles. I wrote that man a warning for not making me chase him and putting me, him or anyone in undue danger. I can tell you, he was the only one in my career at that point and since that has done that on a crotch rocket. I have dealt with same fella a number of times the last 14 years. He actually called me about 6-7 years about some people stealing equipment that he heard about from co-workers. That little bit of information led to 4 men getting convicted and shut down a theft ring that stole a lot of heavy equipment. Do you think he would have called me if I had stroked him out a big arse ticket for a bad lapse in judgement? My training officer taught me years ago that a warning can be just as effective as a ticket. Some people talk themselves in a ticket, others talk themselves into a warning. I 99.9% of the time make my mind up before I exit the vehicle if they are getting a ticket or a warning. that .1% come from the way the violator handles himself. I have wrote thousands of tickets and thousands of warnings over the years, and when I worked the road as a patrol officer you deal with people on complaint calls. Many times I already knew the people I was talking to, whether it be from growing up in the area, or stopping them. I learned early on you have to treat people the way you would want to be treated if you were in their shoes. I still employ that theory today as I work the interstates and deal with a wide variety of people. I can't tell you how many times I walked up to a truck and the driver says "Hi Mr. XXXXXXXXXXX" And I rememeber their name as well.

    It's weird the way things work out in life. When I was a brand new Troop I stopped a guy for 69/55 zone at around 0530 hours. Guy told me he was on his way to work and was going to get a coffee and a paper. I wrote him a warning and went on my way. About a year later I stopped 2 women riding in an Expedition that were speeding. Both were pleasant and apoligetic. I wrote the older woman a warning and went on my way. Four years later I met my wife. When I went to meet her mother and father after we had been dating for about 3 weeks. I had already met them. Her father was the one on his way to work that morning. Her mother was the one I stopped and wrote her the warning. My wife was the other woman in the vehicle that morning. Life can be weird and so can karma. I know some will not believe this, but that is a true story. Hell I had stopped two of my wife's uncles as well. Three of her cousins too. So when I met the family, they were kind of leary being around me.

    I understand you may not understand what I meant when I say I will cut a guy that is upfront and honest a break much quicker than I will someone who wants to bi%^& and moan and lie, deny and accuse. I'm sure scalemaster and Big Don know what I am talking about. Majority of the people I have dealt with from patrol to working trucks will lie, at least initially. Many will come clean once they know you have the goods on them. So when I get someone that man's up it's actually refreshing.

    I got a warning one day from a NE cop that clocked me at............. I don't know and he wouldn't tell me.

    My radar detector went hog wild and I slammed the brakes without even looking.
    There was only me and him for 2 miles. I knew who he was after when the lights came on.
    I pulled over and was chillin when he rolled up.

    I got a warning to slow the F down.



    Then again there are some real flatulent horse's behinds.
    I got a 10 over in IN from a 100% prick, even looked like a ________ head. :biggrin_25523:
    Its possible I was doing 2 or 3 over. The jack ### he was looking for was driving 10 to 15 over in a purple truck.
    Mine was red. That cop was a real piece of work.



    In OR I got a level 1 at the scale.
    My front brakes were real close........... he was an older gentleman that was completely professional about his job. Treated me with respect, as I did him.
    He wrote me a repair warning but did not put me OOS.
    He asked where I was headed, told him Denver to deliver and then home.
    He asked "and then where"?
    I told him the shop to fix the brakes, he said I like your answer, I'm not going to give you an expensive OOS as well as very expensive road side repair.

    Every once in a while we run into folks that almost restore our faith in the profession.
    I'm sure that cops often feel like the entire world is a bunch of morons.
    How ever the good folks are not the ones they usually deal with because most of the time they are not the law breakers.
