DB, that two truck operation sounds like the one I work for.
Been in business for 80+ years, and they have only upgraded the equipment when it became too expensive to pay the fines on the old stuff.
The only reason we have DOT numbers on the one truck is because the owners grandson was pulled over in it (for speeding, as well as passing a scale).
The owner is soo stuck in the past that I will have to quite working for him in order to keep my clean record in tact.:biggrin_25513:

Instead of quiting why not just make sure get his $h!t in order or help him before you run that other truck. Won't take much. Job security?

Unfortunately companies like that believe the rules are not for them. They have been doing whatever they want for so long and have gotten by. And when I come into contact with them that is exactly what they say. "I've been doing this since 1950 and we did this and we did that and now all of sudden you guys are picking on us." I actually had a construction company owner come up to me earlier this week. This guy has a quarry and quite a few trucks. I would say he was around 80 years old. I had stopped a truck and the truck (not one of his) pulled in front of his business. I'm in the car typing when this older fella walks up to me. He complained that "back in the 60's he would load trucks up as much as they could haul, didn't have this, didn't do that. I don't know why you all (I guess he meant DOT) pick on everyone. I ran and ran all day from before sun up to after sunset and never had an accident. Now you guys don't want no one doing anything."

I understand some things, but this dinosuar is still in the 60's. I have stopped his equipment ( I mean junk) before and found nothing but out of service defects. I stopped one of his dumps on day, the front tires look like a Daytona slick, the floor of the truck had a rust hole so big, I could have put a watermelon through it, and it was directly in front of the pedals. How the driver was driving it I do not know. Steering componets worn out, cracked springs.

I doubt this guy will ever change, he has been caught switching VIN plates on trucks. He had mutilple trucks that were the same year and make, but would only tag 2 of them. So when one would tear up, he'll switch the plates around and keep running. I'm still trying to figure how he has anything. He's declared bankruptcy at least two times that I am aware of. One of the guys I work with told me his uncle worked for him during one of the bankruptcy periods. During that time he said that they dug a hole, wrapped it in plastic, put the trucks, excavators, backhoes in the hole and covered it with dirt. A few months went by, they dug the stuff back up and were in business again with the same equipment, This was the 80's but how the heck do you do that? I guess hiding it from the creditors. I still think he has some of that equipment that he brings on the road. But since I was a kid I had heard this guy was a crook and I have seen how he tries to do whatever he can do to do anything but what he should be. Hopefully CSA will take him out of the business. We get his trucks at least weekly, some days they are good but most days they are out of service. Two weeks ago I had one of his dumps with a broken front spring and the driver was suspended.

DB we have a local operator thats only slightly better than what you mentioned.
He usually licenses his rigs. He doesn't fix his OOS problems.
I drove for his company very briefly early in my driving career.
I found a OOS ticket out of CO that the truck still had the same defects, still not repaired as what was on the OOS ticket.

Hes so crooked and such a jerk that if he could figure out how to make money off of it he'd F himself.
Hes long past ###### those that work for him and his mother.
Its highly comical because his yard is real close to a main WY chicken house.
I guess they gotta keep an eye on him...... literally.

And his company holds some of the state records (last I heard) for all time high $$ amount fines for some of the stupid stuff they pull.

Like a large OD load that should have been on AT LEAST 9 axles...... on a 5 axle rig.
Hitting a bridge with said OD load, no permits for said OD load etc etc etc etc etc.
I heard that the state also pulled his OD hauling authority for 6 months.
    Regular sized loads only.

What makes you think the owner of a company like this will listen to his employee? Ain't gonna happen. More than likely the employee will either be told right then to hit the road, or be told "if you don't like it, hit the road." These people will not listen to anything or anybody.

Hell, you can throw them in jail. They will do their time and within days, if not hours, of being back on the street, they will go right back to business as usual.

I worked for the same type guy. Says he can't afford to get the equipment up to par as he drives off in his new Lexus ES350.

Mmm that fellow here in town here, Mark Calcia isnt much better. His trash trucks when going down the road can only do 25 mph tops. His notion on fines is that at 25k to 30k dollars he will go to the DA's office and get them to white line it in group sum to 5 grand. Back a year or so ago he asked me to drive his trucks after he lost his license. Seems he was OOS for no brakes. He also still thinks on the 1970's mentallity of what is required to get his trucks on the road.

Sigh, he is wicked dangerous, I pray he doesnt kill some one with his junk.
