This was not one of my companies drivers. It was another company.

What is real entertaining anymore, is that alot of dealers are sending their trucks down to get trailers.

    These guys have no:
    Dot required insurance.
    No dot number.
    No medical card.
    No log books.
No signs, some have the name of the dealer though.
    No plates.

I watched them chase down a smaller black truck with a trailer of lawn mowers on it that blew the scale in MN. Seems they want all to cross.

This has been a growing issue with the DOT anymore. It is not about safety, but revenue.

Nonsense. Only way that empty trailer is considered "laden" is if you are moving it at the behest and for the benefit of business. If you are moving it for your own personal purposes, there is no freight in it and you are not under dispatch, it is unladen.

Ummmm....this is specifically spelled out in the interpretation as being one of the purposes of personal conveyance. What is there to explain?

Really you think taking the truck to the shop is personal conveyance? Good luck in a DOT audit with that one. Like I said, do as you want and I will keep doing what I have been doing for 20 plus years. I have been thru a DOT audit and know that what I do did not raise any red flags and I learned what they look for in logs and other records. Some people just don't get it and no matter how many times someone trys to help they are going to do it their way no matter what.

Yes I agree with all the above except if taking to get a wash than I will show on duty or driving do to the fact that I will have a receipt for the wash that I am claiming on my tax's. Always think a few steps ahead of the government, you might not have a problem today but later if someone wants to compair records to logs you want to make sure you have everything in order.

Xxxlcj, are we defining "shop" the same way? When I say "the shop," often, I'm talking about the terminal. If you are speaking of the repair shop, you may have a point. However, when my truck goes into a repair facility (perhaps your definition of "shop) I may not be the one who drives it there.

Therefore, I can have the receipts, take them off for taxes and remain off duty for the duration.

Yes repair shop. If you're taking your truck to the terminal for the perpose of it getting repaired that is the same as taking it to a shop so should be logged driving or on duty. Now of corse if someone else takes the truck to the shop from there you don't need to log anything.

Santa's gift bag is a 'Bag of Holding'...weight is negligible. And since he's not a commercial driver, he's not beholded to the HOS.

    Nice try, though!
