Gotta love my spread. Never had problems. Actually got called in a scale before. Women said I'm over my axles on trailer. I looked at her and asked if she looks at thetruck or just the scale. Then #2 come out from the back somewhere and says he's on a spread and can be up to 40k on the trailer, your good. She still looked confused as i walked out saying have a nice day.

Amazing, that they would have someone working the scales that did not even know the regulations.

    No surprise.

If you bring ten DOT personnel in a room, scale ops, road cops like DB, or DOT personnel from the DOT office.

Line em up and ask them the exact same question on a piece of paper so that every one sees the same thing right down to the last .

    You'll get ten different answers.

It is EXTREMELY frustrating to a new guy trying to enter the industry and make sure he is following the law.
    I still remember it well.

You know a lot of states don't even have dot working in the chicken coops any more. It's all hired help cause it was costing the states to much to be paying dot to be sitting at the coops. They want them on the roads.

I'd bet a vast majority of drivers don't know the regulations either....which leaves them vulnerable to scale personnel who do not know the regulations or to carriers who try to stretch the regulations too far.

It's YOUR livelihood. Read that little green book. You've got to KNOW the rules before you can bend them in your favor.

The reason is two fold. You have federal regulations that State's adopt. Then you have State laws that deal with trucks and weight laws. It took me two to three years to be totally comfortable with the trucks laws. I know when I worked the road it took me nearly a year to be comfortable with everything I would handle in road patrol. Literally thousands of laws to understand and know where to find them. The reason I read the regulations all the time is to have the best understanding I can have. Everyday I am constantly learning, if not I will fall behind the curve.

But that's where all the money is made and lost. In the state of confusion or misunderstandment.

Bull squeeze. The money is made when people violate law and regu, ation. Yeah mistakes can be made thats what the court's and DataQ's are for.

Revenue generation is a straw man argument spread by those dancing outside of said laws.

I don't think so. I'm not saying enforcement doesn't know what they are doing. It may take a guy or gal a little longer to look everything up than it does another guy or gal. I have a book, internet and phone to call a friend if I get stumped. I've been doing trucks long enough now to know where I can find what I need to. The other stuff is commited to memory, however, when I'm writing it on an inspection report I'm verifying that it is in fact a violation. I don't look up the lights, becuase the are easy and stay the same. Stuff like load securement, haz mat, various other componets I double check to make sure I am right. Which later saves me from Data Q's that I have to answer.

Your comment about laws were meant to broken, I have always said laws are meant to be enforced. :biggrin_2554::biggrin_25521::biggrin_2554:
