...if I wanted to carry an office around with me, I'd have to put a sleeper on my truck.:biggrin_25522:

So, I could 'legally' drive another 80 miles round trip to the termnial then home and be legal as an eagle? This is insane, but it's what I'd expect from regulations.

Ok, I'm typically dispatched from home, It specifically states that I'm on duty from my home... as my home would be enroute to the terminal... So, your telling me I MUST drive past my home to the terminal... then turn around and drive from the terminal back to my home to drive a CMV under this interpretaion?

Wouldn't you agree that this is silly?

The only thing "silly" about that is your question.

What benefit would it be to you to drive farther on duty past your house to the terminal to go off duty for the drive home as opposed to just driving home from your last drop on duty?

I was assuming I could go off duty at the end of my work day... my last drop. " When a driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work "

So, after my last drop... I'm relieved of work or no longer performing work... nor am I laden... SO.... I'm off duty.

You're off duty yes but at the last drop.I think if you wanna go home that is considered line 3 as long as you are hooked to a trl but otherwise you can use it as personal drive time as long as you're not hooked to a trailer I think.

The rule interpretation says nothing about not having a trailer. It ONLY requires you be unladen (empty... and no load enroute to get)

If I'm out of hours on Friday and need to make it home, I regularly use this to get home, either bobtail or with an empty trailer. Usually around 50 miles one way, but with Atlanta traffic it takes almost 2 hours.

If you punched a time clock, you'd have to get back to your work place in order to punch out, right? If that location is the house, then you've got to get back to the house before you can go off duty. If that location is the terminal, then you've got to get there. Your drive home from your last drop is NOT personal conveyance unless you are to return to the location of your last drop in order to load your first load the following morning.

What you are wanting to do is to drop your last load and drive home off duty, thereby getting you closer to your next load without eating up your available hours and that is NOT what personal conveyance was intended to allow.

Having a trailer or not has nothing to do with whether you are able to claim personal conveyance or not. As long as the trailer is empty, you are unladen.

Where does it state I MUST return to the location of my last drop to load my next laden load? I don't punch time clocks, I'm paid on % of the load. Dispatched from home... sometimes

My intent is to go home to sleep, as I don't even know where I'm being dispatched next. Is it possible I may be closer to my next laden load? Perhaps, but am I now to be penalized for my homes location?

the point is, if you still have a load in your trailer when you go home, you cant log it as personal conveyance.
