I thought that most intersections were designed for a 48? And that the 53 has the same turning radius as a 48 unless the tandems are slid to the back, albeit with more tailswing?

no a 48' trailer usually does not have the tandems all the way back, a 53' where most guys run their axles is like driving a 48' with the axles all the way back. Even local 48' trailers with say a lift gate will have 3-5 feet of trailer behind the axles.

Round here alot of the intersections were in place long before they allowed 45' trailers.

We should be taking this discussion to a new thread. The major intersections for the most part are for the current length of trucks. Some one had asked scalemaster if they had heard anything of an increase of length, to which I had made the remark about the intersections. Yes alot of intersections are very tight for even a high cube straight truck.

Can we end it here please or open it in a new thread.

Geez AT, you're like a liberal: so much of what you know is just wrong.

If you put identical 21 pallet loads on a 48' & a 53', the tandem will within inches of the same position on both trailers (meaning the KPA measurement.)
