Just some of the stupid things I see

I guess you could look at the positive side,, you got a warning and something added to your CSA score,, versus a fine (or worse) plus something added to your CSA score.

As for the APU,, if you scale your truck (with full tanks) and trailer (empty) you will know your weight and how much weight you can legally haul,, and this would account for the weight of the APU.

 

Illinois will warn you without giving you an actual warning and make you get it legal before you can leave. No ticket or fine, though, other than the $125 for the tow company to send a flatbed.

 

um.....since when do overweight violations go on your CSA score?

 

I thought the allowance for actual APU weight up to 400 lbs was a federal mandate. Current company doesn't have them, but former did. They gave all drivers a copy of the mandate. I'll see if I can find it.

I would think its a no brainer on the long run. Your only using a pint an hour over a gallon. At $4.50 a gallon that adds up quickly now.

 

Actually iowa does allow 400lbs over gross for an apU. I loaded in dakota city and was 80,360 lbs gross. The iowa scale just a short 20 miles away pulled me in, weighed me, and then looked over all my paperwork. In my permit book is a letter from thermo king stating the actual weight of the apu and case is 425 lbs. With that I was told I was good to go. This was in feb 2012.

Presuming an APU has doubled in price (8 grand?). And assuming its $5 (with excise fees) per gallon, that is 1600 gallons of fuel in the immediate. Yet the cost of repairs on your rig, assuming you get stuck in a blizzard on the side of east bum tuck. Your 100 gallons of fuel at 1 gpm is not going to last you very long. If it was a APU, you could tough it out for 33 days as opposed to 4. You had best hope the plow trucks find you before that 4 days are up with out the APU.

 

bullhaulers wife is right, Chances are they pull you over, and pull out the portable scales... they will also inspect you and it will show up on CSA, because they will site you on why you were pulled over for the warning... 9 out of 10 times they cite speeding. Regardless of the FACT that you were not speeding.
