I guess you could look at the positive side,, you got a warning and something added to your CSA score,, versus a fine (or worse) plus something added to your CSA score.
As for the APU,, if you scale your truck (with full tanks) and trailer (empty) you will know your weight and how much weight you can legally haul,, and this would account for the weight of the APU.

Some states with no idle laws encouraged APU usage, other states didn't and see no reason to start.
This gets into state's rights and will probably not be settled, meanwhile, the lease companies I run across aren't installing APUs, there is nothing in it for them, so they won't go to the expense. -
I would think its a no brainer on the long run. Your only using a pint an hour over a gallon. At $4.50 a gallon that adds up quickly now.

Presuming an APU has doubled in price (8 grand?). And assuming its $5 (with excise fees) per gallon, that is 1600 gallons of fuel in the immediate. Yet the cost of repairs on your rig, assuming you get stuck in a blizzard on the side of east bum tuck. Your 100 gallons of fuel at 1 gpm is not going to last you very long. If it was a APU, you could tough it out for 33 days as opposed to 4. You had best hope the plow trucks find you before that 4 days are up with out the APU.
