So we're going to roll over for the 3 Mexican truckin' companies and their 3 qualified drivers now? This is getting just plain stupid. How long will it be until we have to have DOT inspectors who speak Thai, Cambodian, Vietminese, Chinese, French, Welsh, Portuguese, Ukranian, Russian - so that we won't let anyone feel left out?
Just some of the stupid things I see

Personally , i would prefer to read all the laws related to driving,it would be easier! -
I have a question for the Scalemaster.
In my place (Europe,Belguim) if we double the rearlights (all rearlights, included turnsignals and breaklights) and 1 goes out we are still 100% legal(as we have still 1 working).
Is this also the case in the USA?
Or is the principle that no matter how many are working, you have 1 not working so you are in violation?? -
ANY light installed on a vehicle, whether inside or out, must be operational or the driver is in violation.
this includes map lights, glove box lights and closet lights.
Howerver, to be fair, I would think you really have to po a leo to have him start checking your under dash lights, glove box, etc!
But in answer to your question...you can have 10 rear turn signal lights and if one is out, you're in violation.daf105paccar Thanks this. -

Subpart B - Lamps, reflective devices, and electrical wiring
§393.24 Requirements for head lamps, auxiliary driving lamps and front fog lamps.
Question 1: Must additional lamps that are not required be operative if all required lamps are operative?
Guidance: No.jbatmick, TLeaHeart, daf105paccar and 1 other person Thank this. -
subpart (a)..."all lamps required by this subpart shall be capable of being operated at all times."
If you add to the number of "required lamps"...as the questioners example, doubling up on tail lights (stop lamps), turn signals...you are merely increasing the number of required to be working lamps on the rig/unit(s).
Basically....if they are there, they must work, or you are out of compliance!HDFatboy Thanks this. -

I have a friend who should have hired you as the attorney on his ticket.
If it is there, it must work.otherhalftw and Brickman Thank this. -
just because someone was found guilty, does not mean the law was followed.
