I know back in the 70s my dad would pop pills and run for days strait, and before he died in 02 he would drink a six pack and drive down the road hailing coils(thank God i didnt turn out like him in that respect), and my uncle had a truck in the 70s that sounded like some of DBs stories, had his trucking company (1 truck) registered to a po box somewhere in MS that he ant never been, used a plate he found at a truck stop, run for days without stopping(no pills, just coffee) then crash in a hotel for a day or so. I am glad i am to young to know thous days, but i loved the stories. I am 3rd gen driver, dads dad, his two brothers and him, but i think we have it better now with the kind of trucks we have today, even if we cant run like we want to anymore.

Once you get loaded....11 hours is plenty of time.....

I can do an average of 500....I have done 700+ in 11.....But I usually can get 500 with no problem.....

The secret is to keep that left door closed......

now i've read all of deiselbears post and like most of you have enjoyed them and even i can't help but laugh at some , the games people play. now i don't know what area of the country he works but it sounds like the east coast thats's where most of that trash comes from , thankfully im not encluded in that mess.

now i guess im considered an outlaw but the term outlaw is not the same as it was when i started this business.

the term outlaw started back before deregulation and that was a while ago, im older then dirt but back then we were called outlaw because we hauled hot freight and no that does not mean stolen freight it asimply meant that we didnt have authority to haul it there fore we were outlaws and yeah i did it all the time just about every trip now with dereguation i dont have to i have my authority now but back then you could not get it .

BUT even back then my trucks were older as they are today but they look good they run good and they will pass any dot inspection and i don't have payments ,some of you guys that no so much that are so critiucal of old trucks haven't a clue as to what you are talking about and most of you don't last long. quite simply you are to much in love with yourself.

here is a flash for you, the drivers that diselbear is taling about are not truck drivers a truck drive does not put innocent people in jeapordy those types of drivers are quite simply crooks and quite frankly he needs to keep on doing his job there is no place for them in this business but i dont think he will have to worry about his job he will continue to have plenty of work there alway seems to be one more to take the place of the one he just put off the road thats the way it is just as it was in the good old days some things never change.

now some will say that you cant make an old truck safe nor can you make money with it , well that may be true to some that don't have the no how or some that are just to #### lazy to do it but i do it every day i simply refuse to pay a 150.000 for a new truck, pay 1900.00 a mont payments then put a load on it that payes less then the #### payment my calculater dosent work that way and im in business to make money not to look good or impress the lady's although i will say my trucks do lookgood but they didn't get that way overnight it takes time and a little money but it can be done and deiselbear can pull a inspection any time he wants he is more then welcome and all he will find in the truck is some cold cokes and not many of them.

do i put the guy down that has an unsafe truck? no i don't i simply do not no his circumstance, maybe he is doing the best he can i don't no times are bad right now worse then most of you kids know and there not getting any better, do i put dieselbear down for doing his job ? nope i do not you can only run a truck that is so bad then you need to park it till you can make it better dont keep it running on the highway nobody has the right to put another in jeaperdy thats why we have the DOT if you don't park it sooner or later they will, and if they do it it's going to cost you more then if you had went ahead and fixed the truck yourself.

now i do not support all the new regs and some i will not comply with , i have no problem with safty issues but i do have problems with a regulation that is desined soley to take my money if the politicians need money then get a real job.

but that is the way it is.

all have a great day in spite of things, and remember you never lose till you quit, there is always away.

WCP, i run legal, but i was told of those things by my family, and seen my dad drink a six pack and drive down the road. I always try to keep the left door closed.

I agree jbatmick, that was spoken with a lot of experience, and i do value others and always try to listen to the more experienced drivers for there wisdom.

The guys that DB is pulling over & talking about are virtually all the general public & of course Congress hears about & associates as truck driver. Would have never imagined some of the stuff happening that I have read in this thread.

I think he meant that is the way that the general public and politicians perceive all truck drivers when in reality it is very few of us like that.
