    DB,
In another thread we have been discussing the prepass and weigh stations regs. In this thread we have came to a conclusion. That being if we get a red light we are supposed to pull in no doubt about that. But when we get a red light and the ramp is backed up onto the highway. It is extremely unsafe to slam on brakes on the road and hit the shoulder. it is alot safer to just by-pass. what are your thoughts on this subject. also what are the regs on this?

Well, this is a broad question that can not be summed up in an all definitve answer. Each jurisdiction may operate differently. As far as federal regulations, I know of none, it is a State regulation for traffic control device, or refusing to weigh, etc. If I'm the one chasing you down, I guess it will depend on a lot of factors, such as the traffic flow, the possible backup, how screwed up the truck or driver is. For instance the driver has been drinking, log is screwed up, registration is messed up, there's a good chance this particular driver was blowing the scale. The driver that has his ducks in a row, truck and log are good, I'm probably letting him roll with a verbal warning. To broad a question to give a decent answer. Sorry.

Must have been the full moon, had another running 30 over the speed limit, No CDL, No IFTA, No Log book. He was trying out for the "Super Trucker" reality show.

Here in Ontario I by passed a scale since they were backing up on the highway. So did about 10 or more trucks, nobody came after us.

You are not supposed to stop on a moving highway period that's just my .02.

Don't know what they require, but I imagine they have a shoulder. If I ran that run quite regularly I would stop in and ask the question to the folks at the scale. Then you'll know what playing field your on. That way your on the baseball field with them, and not on the hockey rink by yourself.

Law says the shoulders are for emergency stopping only and there is no driving allowed on them. Scales need to abide by the existing laws.

Nitpicking aside, I'm glad you're out there stopping these outlaw trucks before someone gets killed. It's hard to believe people still try it.

Well....................it goes in cycles. I'll have a bunch of weird, crazy stuff, then just have run of the mill inspections. The way the chips fall.

I don't think I have much to worry about I run legal and keep my ducks in a row as much as possible. Other then dragging a trailer with no reg or a bad tire a few miles to a ta or fax machine to get said items fixed. That is all I do. But I doubt DB would fine me when he saw my gps was all ready programed to that truck stop 4 miles away. Plus I only do 60mph anyways. This is only because its a matter of waiting 16 hours on the side of the road or drive 5 miles to get that tire that has uneven wear fixed then I think it is safer that I get down the road then sit on it.

Thank you for your great work DB. I wish we had alot more DB like you and less of the ones only worried about fining someone over some twisted version of the green book that they made up. Err their interpretation of the law. I am sure we all have had cases of getting tickets that were unjust. Like me impeding traffic in NJ because I wasn't accelerating fast enough. I tried to explain to him its a semi not a corvette but it didn't seam to mater none.

Long store short Keep up the great work DB. I am glad you are here to shed some light on the regs for us simple minded truck drivers :):biggrin_25523:
