Yeah it sounds like you have an easy way to get a decent truck. Probably shouldn't pass it up and sounds like you can do some work if you need to... way ahead of me there! I think you'll find you'll have a hard time paying it off that quick though. Don't worry too much about it though, let your earnings pay the truck and stick to the formula. If you have extra money at the end of the month you'll want to hold on to it for a mechanical fund. Once you spend it even if you're ahead of schedule usually no one will give it back to let you solve your emergency instead. PM if you need anything.

Do you have a CPM calculator to play with? PM me your email addy and I'll send you one if not. The only sure-fire way to stay ahead right now is volume. LOTS of miles and stay running. If the rates are good you'll do very well, and if not so good you can at least lower your break-even cost per mile by running a lot. For instance, if you ran 1 mile a week, you'd need $3k per mile. If you ran 3000 miles, you'd need $1 per mile, and so on, so it works. Why do they want you to stay close? Is it a concern about the truck, or the financing? Would it make it from coast to coast? If not then $15k is really too much to be asking. From what I've read though, it's got a rebuild and is low miles on that, so it should be good to go. Whatever deal you are offered, you want to get 80% to the truck if you're paying your own bills. That's if they are providing authority, loads, and trailer. If they pay insurance and other things then it can be lower, but it doesn't sound like it.
I used to know a guy that said this...He's driving a company truck now 'cause he went belly up! He worked more than I do but he hauled cheap freight with the attitude that if the wheels are turning I'm makin' money...He wasn't. If you're hauling ANYTHING that pays less than $1.60 a mile, You might as well put the "FOR SALE" sign in the window right now. $1.60 per mile is not good but it's at least enough to keep your business afloat and pay yourself something too. I won't drive my pickup for a buck a mile!
Listen, we're ALL frustrated with rates and the state of things right now. But your buddy would have gone under quicker gauranteed if he only ran the $1.60's out of all the things he ran. Please keep it honest. If it's there then don't be dumb and take a lower rate, but if it's not...(and it ISN'T) then don't cut off your nose to spite your face. If you need $3k a month to pay your bills, then you're going to have to run $6k in receivables in any way that it comes. I'm not saying run for fuel money, that gets no one anywhere. I don't personally run for under $1 anymore, but that's because there's enough out there to not have to. I can't live on 1 $1.50 run a week nor can anyone else. However, if my break-even is 75 cents, I DO still have to break even, there's no choice in the matter unless you really would rather close up shop than run that cheap. I understand a lot feel that way and that's fine. But understand that you will close shop.
Dino6960. CONSISANT IS THE GAME. JUST CONSISTANTLY "FAST".LOL. TRUCKSTOP BOARDS SHOW LOADS PAYING $1.60 PER MILE AND HIGHER. ONE OF THESE THREADS MENTIONED A COUPLE OF GOOD BROKER. CHECK'EM OUT. TRY GETLOADED AND DIRECT FREIGHT IT'S TIME TO GET OUT THERE, GET LOADED AND MAKE MONEY. truckinwva
Dino6960, there have been some brokers mentioned out there. CALL THEM FOR GOOD RATES. Then maybe you'll make it. Look on the boards at truck stops because they are paying $1.58 per mile and higher. "YOU HAVE TO ACT NOW". truckinwva
