well its kinda been awhile since i really did anything here but just to let you all know i am home for a week finally and cant stop sleeping, 6 weeks on is a haul but we now have enough drivers hired that hopefully this wont happen again. just for you new guys looking to come out here to work...this is by no means a 9-5 job you have no life other than work, you will not sleep 8 hrs most nights nor will you eat right and if you are not prepared for this mentally the bakken will eat you alive!
tman78 Thanks this. -

Where did you hire on sir? I ve had my cdl for a week and a half and have been talking to folks in ND via message boards and FB. I have one potential prospect for the bakken at the moment but am having a hard time finding company willing to train new drivers!

Hey, Warhack
Know if it's possible to do water and/or sand hauling for oilfields if you've got full CDL and 8 years experience 48 states, but not driven tractor/trailer for 2 years? Think they would train me?

Well I made it up here. Long drive. The wind out of the north west is a bugger. And the snow blowing over the highways creating a total white out is different for a Texas boy. Been running back and forth getting certified at different places and should be driving soon. As for those looking for work there are signs absolutely everywhere looking for drivers. I've seen over a dozen companies looking for drivers between Tioga and Williston. Just make sure your ready for the cold. Its suppose to warm up this coming weekend, but I'm sure it will drop again. If I can help...ask. I'll try

Not to hijack the thread: I too am getting itchy feet to move; wanted to stay 1 yr. on my job as a vac truck driver here in the Eagle Ford, but with 9 mo. behind me, I'm ready to move. I think about going to W. Texas, but ND. continues to pull at me.
Although I keep reading here about a starting salary of $20. IMO that's not enough $ to work in those harsh conditions. I was in Williston June of '12 and I was hearing drivers starting @ $25/hr., Exp. @ $30/hr. Salaries have dropped then.
All the BEST to you -
I had a few reasons for moving so far...First: a change of scenery. I'm tired of 100 degree summer days with 100% humidity. Second: I have no experience and the man I'm working for didn't mind teaching me. Third: housing in the boom areas is expensive and here I'm getting free housing, it's not the best, but it's okay. The money I'm getting isn't the best, but it's a opportunity for me to learn to haul frac sand in some of the worst conditions the oil field can offer and I'm hoping I can write my own ticket, but this was a great opportunity for a rookie straight out of driving school after being here a year. I'm sure I'll get homesick before next winter.
tacomaruss and Rodeorowdy Thank this.
