there are alot of companies that will train new drivers and i think one reason that they do is because there are more driving jobs than there are drivers in the bakken right now. i hear the wages are low but when you look at all the "free housing" ads it isnt really free they use part of our wages to help defer the cost of the room, house, apt we live in which is fine with me because im making 5 grand a month and couldnt afford rent its nuts 2800 is about the lowest you will find for a 2 bd room place in williston tack on utilities and other bills and its like living on minimum wage and going paycheck to paycheck.....have a family out here???????? forget about it
just starting out in the bakken

Sorry to change the subject but does anyone have info/opinion about my wa. cdl being good to drive in nd?It's about to expire in aug.and I either renew in wa. and then again in nd.or just drive out and take my chances?does anyone know if there is a backlog at the dmv in nd and how long it is?Don't want to get caught waiting for nd dmv to process it if they are having long backlogs of drivers applying.
-
Aug is still a long time away. I would go to ND. and get a job. There are so many CDL jobs available. I attended the job fair 2 weeks ago that's where I get my opinion from. Then after you get a job they'll tell you if they want you to get a local lic. then or you can wait until Aug. When you apply for a ND. you'll be issued one on the spot, as I was.
I went to Williston June of '12 and surrendered my out-of-state lic. and got my ND. lic. then and there. I don't imagine it's any more busy now than it was 21 months ago.rrssllll Thanks this. -
Thank you Rodeorowdy. Also I have the problem of my haz-mat (HME).The TSA need 6 to 8 weeks to complete the new backround check.Do the drivers find that a haz-mat (HME) is not needed? For instance I hear some drivers talk about hauling water?

If you do not plan to permanently relocate to ND you do not need to get a ND license. I've been oilfield 3 years in 4 different states and had my Florida CDL the entire time

Thank you Oilfieldmike. That jives with the nd dot They told me as long as I was not driving for 90 days "consecutively" in state I was fine with out of state license. It helps ease the mind to hear it from more than one source. Thanks mike

Perhaps there are far too many companies that pay on a commission who do not care about the safety of their employees, but I am not one of them. I pay my drivers based upon the gross of what they haul. I also monitor them, and will not hesitate to fire someone who is a danger to themselves or others. And I have. I also invest heavily on training. I spend at least 10K on every "newbie" that comes on board. That's probably on the low end. And there is never a rush to get someone trained and working on their own. I don't have one single driver who would accept an hourly wage. My bust ### drivers make between 600 and 1000 a day. We are very specialized in what we do which helps, but if a guy only makes 350 a day then that's that. Sorry you feel that way about commission. With your attitude toward safety you could make alot of money with a company like mine. Good luck and be safe.
tman78 and truckergal77 Thank this.
