If you can stand live cargo school bus drivers are hurting for drivers bad. My co driver i did food service with is a school bus driver. He asked for a raise and they gave him extra 2.50hr w/o batting an eye. Plenty of OT available with sports and class trips
A decent company in my area, northeast pa/southern tier NY will start you off around 19-20hr + OT. My friends been driving bus for 2 years now he's up to 24.75hr -
Hvac , auto mechanics , heavy equipment mechanics, welding , you name it .
most of them pay as good as trucking and you get treated a lot better and don’t have to live in a truck for weeks at a time away from home.Cowboyrich and Hazmat Cat Thank this. -

If you are considering military route, which being a veteran myself, I'd encourage, go for the Air Force!! Most of the time I was there I had basically a 40 hour a week job (for 2 years I actually only worked 35 hours a week because I worked nights and our shifts in that set up were only 7 hour shifts). Rarely had any wekend or extra duty to contend with and of all the services, I think Air Force treats their folks the best. My opinion!
I wanted to work in electronics. Got out of high school went to college but was too immature and drinking too much for that, so I went in the Air Force. Ended up with a great electronics job and got to see alot of Europe in the process.
Anyway, regardless of where you end up, I've always found that if you're willing to actually work and do what your boss tells you to do (as long as there's no legal or moral issues with it) then it's easy to stay employed.
Trucking is an odd occupation. For many if not most of us, it is more of a lifestyle than just a job. I'm OTR and basically live in my truck, seldom know where I'm going next and about the only thing consistent is its lack of consistency. Myself, I enjoy and thrive on that, many don't. It's also a job that is spent mostly in solitude with little to no social life. For us older folk, that's usually not a problem. I have a friend who I met when we were in the same trucking school class. He's in his mid 20's and the lack of a social life is proving very difficult on him. He's working on finding something that lets him stay closer and more consistently around his home.
Anyway, good luck! -
I would fight the insurance company on the lift thing
Then rent is trailer won’t be the same as a semi truck and trailer so not sure how that will help
May actually hurt
There are government grants for CDL schools. Just dig a little to see if you can qualify -
