Hubby has a decision to make about joining either K & B Transportation or Van Wyk. Heard a lot of good about Van Wyk but not so much on K & B. Basically his goal is to have consistent home time, and consistent pay. Van Wyk pays by percentage while K & B is cpm and has their "guarantee" of $1025/week. But of course, I thought maybe they will just try to run the heck out of him or have all kinds of requirements to reach that guarantee and so forth. I want him to find a place he can stay at long term and be happy with. Oh and decent cost for health insurance is a huge plus (family plan). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I generally consider percentage a plus where/when you can find it. And I have heard more then a few bad stories about K&B and can't recall any positive comments other then from recruiters. I don't know anything about Van Wyk other then they run nice equipment and I see them along a lot of the same lanes we run.
Does he have 2+ years experience the last 4 years?rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Thanks. Good equipment is always a plus too. I hate when my hubby calls me up po'ed that he has been sitting because his truck is broke down or just the process of getting a truck repaired. I can't do anything but listen and try to talk to him. I guess I will see if anyone else has some insight on either of these companies.

And yes he has close to 2 1/2 years experience.

I don't know if Van Wyk would hire from that far into KS, while K&B probably does.
There is a thread on Van Wyk in the Inside Scoop Forum. I honestly don't think there would be that much difference between the 2 of them. Both reefer only. -
We fall right into that line in Northeast KS. I can always have him double check though (they have a terminal not too far west of us). And I seen that forum but there were more than 300 pages and nothing really recent. I don't think there is too much difference, but being somewhere where he would be happy is definitely a major factor.

I would stay away from K&B. They are nasty, and that guarantee only applies when you are available for dispatch, 7 days. If you have a home time and you work 6 days of that week and your miles are low because you are going home, then you will not get it. The same when you come out of the house. You will not have a 7 days pay period, so in effect, they can really short you on your miles. Also I remember back when I was there, dispatch liked to not show drivers respect, and my one truck, was dirty inside, and they actually told me, use some elbow grease, it will get clean.

I'd suggest reading maybe the last 50 to 100 posts, they are pretty recent. I don't recall anyone posting in that thread from KS, but if they get you home often, or more often, that would give a push towards them.
They have no APUs, which many have griped about, and they are switching away from the Kenworths, due to having too many problems with them. I see just a few of the last Petes, and lots of Volvos now along with the Kenworths and even a few Cascadias. -
I'd agree with the previous posters based upon my limited knowledge of both companies.

Drove for Van Wyk for close to 3 years, probably still be there if I didnt by my truck. We have a thread on here that we started 4 years ago. Very informative, he'll do fine out of KS as Dave is one of the better dispatchers in the fleet. Only negative about VW is they're battling emission problems with these newer trucks. But feel free to look into that thread and ask questions as myself and others could help you out.
Edit... sorry seen you skimmed thru the thread but what specifics do you want to know? Not much has changed in a year since I've been gone
