They flow more air because the holes are bigger but they actually filter better when oiled properly because the oil on the foam creates a static charge that filters out even the smallest particles...its science.

I remember there was a test done on all the air filters and k&n was one of the worst for letting dust through. It was a comparison of like 10 filters and k&n was 9th worst. It was for motorcycles so it may not compare, but it depends what vehicle it’s for. Like my Columbia I get them from the dealer for $20 but for my w9 it’s ridiculously more expensive.

Ran one on my dodge with a cummins. They are junk on turbo charged engines that run anywhere near a dusty environment. When I worked for CAT the only place I seen that style of air filter used was on yacht engines where there is no dust. All other engines ran standard paper air filters with a secondary inner saftey filter.

Yeah they are not get oiled like the car, pickup filters.

The real problem is they are crap. They don't filter dust out of the air, sorry I tested them for a year on a few trucks with filters provided for by K&N to see if I would make them our go to filter but OAs were showing too high silica levels with the filters so they were removed and put into storage.

To the op, you have other issue if you are doing a filter cycle at 6 or 8 weeks.

If you think this will save you money, you won't save any. Mainly because you have to remove the filter, wash it with a cleaner and then rinse and dry it off, this can take time, the cleaner and filter cost and if you depend on the driver (which is not wise) to do the work, it will cost you more than just cleaning of a paper once and then replacing it.

    truckerbangin Thanks this.

Then you really should consider a prefilter.
