This #### right here is a MASSIVE part of why i live in SD lol. And ill be honest my estate planing was lazy. I hired a lawyer and he holds all the documents incase i bite the big one. Its a fairly cheap service and all i need to do is email him any changes.

If i die today then within 48 hours all my crap should be divvied up among those i give a #### about and my corpse should either be on its way to be turned into a tiki torch and my ashes sent to space (my final middle finger to people who whine about my diesel trucks) or when i have the cash into a cryo vault with a SSD full of certain documents and files i want to keep if i come back 500 years from now along with one account i plan to keep in trust unless and until my brain is destroyed in the 1 in 50 trillion chance revival is posible.

    Great piece thank you.
We went the trust route. No one in my family owns anything , everything is in a family trust and only family members can access the trust. Little bit expensive but well worth it.

Let me just pass this along…..

we had a trust fully set up long before the event happened……and I am the trustee

it took six months for me to gain full access to the money . As soon as you tell them of the passing the account will be locked . And no one is in a rush.

Chase and Fidelity are both a pain in the butt

There's probably some good reasons not to do this, but it almost seems like putting everything into a business structure of some type (LLC,S corp,C corp etc...) and then being a co owner of said business would be advantageous just in that you would have instant access to everything as soon as the person died as the same entity still owns everything rather than having to change ownership from trust to trustee.

Same here. The biggest benefit is that we never have to talk/argue about money.
She gives me $1,000 every month from her SS. Everything else is to spend as she pleases. $10 for a cup of really bad coffee? Have 2.
But, seriously, it allows her to spend her money any way she wants to; and in a marriage, that's a lot of freedom. I don't want her under my thumb and I don't want to question every purchase.

You never know people until you know them.

    That poor man.

Living with a witch like that for how many decades?

And at the very end of his life, he was still trying desperately to do what was best for her?

And yet still she hated him?

You never know people until you know them.

    That poor, poor man.

Trapped in a toxic relationship for how many decades?

    That poor, poor, poor man.

You never know people until you know them.

Well aware of MO DMV and/or verbiage. Moved to KS, been divorced 9 yrs at that point and went to get KS tags when I was informed of this issue. I drove down to the closest Casey's and politely asked a woman in there if she could sign my ex's name on the Title and she did. Drove back to DMV 5 min later with all required signatures & the lady looked at me and said, "I don't want to know, don't even give me a hint. There is a signature where hers needs to be and it isn't your writing so we will proceed as normal."

Good info here. Dad did a pretty good job with his affairs. With mom, it took me four (4) years to figure out how many bank accounts she had and where they were. Turned out she had five (5) accounts in two (2) different states. Finally after much effort got em all consolidated into one account. And she’s still living. I hate to think how difficult it would have been otherwise.
