Called then to order a second eld and they said it would be a two week wait to get one because of the chip shortage. Told him I would see if I can find something else as I didn’t want a truck sitting. He said he can provide a proof of purchase that will allow me to run paper until the eld comes in. Is that legit? Anyone know of a regulation that backs that up?
KeepTruckin full of it?

Yes and no, it basically acts as your "two week freebie" or whatever for if it acts up and you need to get it fixed, meantime you run paper.
That said.

They gave me the same excuse of chip shortage. According to HOS 8 days out of every 30 day period you can go on paper. I waited about 6 weeks for the replacement. While pending the replacement, I used Garmin ELD, which once you purchase it, you can use it without activation or subscription fees. The new KT gateway works fine now and I am back on it but I am thinking about not renewing KT plan the next time, and staying with Garmin for good.

When I ordered mine it took 6 weeks (last spring). I carried there paper and ran there app on my phone. Didn’t get inspected or asked, so it was all good.

I’ve done a lot of research on this and couldn’t find anything to back up what this guy at KeepTruckin told me. I called OOIDA and the people in the compliance department have never heard of such a thing either. The only thing I can find from the FMCSA is about an eld malfunctioning, and you are only given 8 days to use a paper log. If you cannot get the eld back in service after that you have to submit a request with the FMCSA to ask for more time.
I did get the proof of purchase from KeepTruckin today, on it it showed an expected ship date of 12/30/2021. That’s 6 weeks, not the 2 weeks I was told. I will not deal with dishonest people and will be canceling my subscription with them. -
Well can you get one of those that plug into to the computer truck port and blue tooth to a tablet?
Or are those out too..

If I decide to keep them I am gonna try and order the ELD once my truck is in production. Should take 4-5 weeks to get the truck and gonna have an APU installed once here. So should have enough time to get it if I am smart about it I guess.
Does anyone else ELD work for IFTA like KeepTruckin? That is one of the reasons I really like that ELD.
