You might find Garmin a little simplistic at first as compared to KT but it does get the job done. Don't get discouraged. All the HOS aspects including break splitting, 14 hour clock freeze etc are reflected in it. Just remember to run backup as there is no cloud where the data is saved, it stays on the device, you can't transfer it and if you delete the app the data goes too. $99 was a good deal I bought mine $150 a year ago.

I am a little sceptical about their IFTA trip reports, it may be all right for reporting the miles but the trip reports would not fly for the IRP/IFTA audit, I'm afraid. Did you see them? They have little to do with what must be shown on the reports...just location coordinates, no routes taken, no load info, no trip context. The format may not be acceptable for an auditor and rightfully so. There is no way to know anything by seeing the reports. I wish someone who got audited could tell us that those KT trip reports were not an issue.

Random thought that others could verify or deny the legality of this, but why would you need to use paper until the keeptruckin device comes in?

The service uses an app on your phone right?
Just manually go on the drive line when you start driving. You'll have elogs to show DOT if you get inspected.

The ELD is not determined by how you plot the graph. Wether on paper or a phone screen. It must be hooked up to ECM. It is a common secret that few cops actually check the connection and many just use the app in the manual mode, hoping never to get caught.
The rule is that you have only 8 days out of every 30 day period when you can use non ELD, paper or electronic.

    zaroba and Siinman Thank this.

Supposed to be something like 8 day paper in any 30 day window??

But with all the BS going on at some point they have to make exceptions
Just like that idiot in California is up against.
All those containers need to move and they need to open up this mess

Garmin, and dedicated tablet just for the ELD, seems best way to go.

When I did my first audit after getting authority it was fine. Did not have any issues with it. Based off of my numbers they are within a 1-10 miles each qtr.

    TallJoe and Pamela1990 Thank this.

Right, but they don’t say if the phone needs an internet connection.
