i have on 07 T800 with the outside air temp displayed on the tach and the probe in the mirror and i am getting a reading of 150 when it is only 35 outside and i called kenorth and they want $658 for the parts. Is there anything i can do to fix it without putting that kind of money out

Yeah call another KW dealership. Thats freaking high. Which KW have you been calling? I'm pretty sure you can buy just the probe.

On some new trucks the OAT sensor is part of a harness and not servicable.

I had the same problem. I bought the sensor from Kenworth for under 50 bucks I think. I bought a new mirror off the shelf because the mirror defrost didn't work anymore. I drilled a hole in the new mirror and installed the sensor just like is was in the factory mirror. Hooked up all the wires inside the mirror for the defrost and the temp sensor using heat shrink connectors.
