Kenworth t660 and low sulfur diesel

    my former company, use to tell the l/p driver's if they put any other diesel fuel other than low sulfur, it would damage the engine. I'm pretty sure that is true, but to what extent. They were charging guy's anywhere from 8 to 10k for repairs. Does that sound right?

    Were they running high sulfer (red, non tax, offroad) diesel?

    Yeah, it does certain things to newer engines, that arent designed for high sulfer fuel, but I'm not too sure what it can or will do. Only heard about it.

    One thing for sure, don't get caught with it in your street vehicle.

    If the l/p guys were running low sulfur diesel in a motor equipped with a dpf, then yes there will be damage to the dpf. The damage is usually enough to cause a person to replace the dpf, which costs in the neighborhood of $6-10,000. Now if the l/p were running thr dyed offroad diesel that is even worse. Like stated earlier it has a higher sulfur content and has the dye in it. Once you put dyed fuel through a fuel system its in there for a while. The dye itself will stay in the filters and other parts of the system and if the trucks tanks are checked any little trace of the dye will show up...another words REAL BIG FINES. About the only way to get the dye out is to completely purge the system, with all new filters, drain and clean the fuel tanks.

    thanks, just wondering, lot of driver's at the last company I worked, were hit hard by that mistake.

    I doubt it's off road diesel. all the on road diesel these days is low sulfer. the new stuff is ultra low sulfer diesel. you can't runt he regular low sulfer in a ulsd engine. it puts out sulferic acid and starts eating things away fromt he inside. most truckstops just switched over fully to ulsd now. some stil have regular and ulsd pumps seperate

    After Hurricane Katrina the Fed's o.k.'ed the use of off road diesel at some fuel stops . I noticed it right away at a Pilot in KY . I called my boss ( small fleet owner with 30 trucks ) and he was not happy because several of our drivers had fueled there without noticing .
