15mpg is exceptional. My truck is well above average and got 13 mpg bobtail before converting to wide singles. Doubt I'd break 14 with them though...

Nothing wrong or bad with the manifolds. Nor the mufflers. Only problem with the mufflers is they are just a rebranded Donaldson M100463 that can be bought anywhere relatively cheap. You can also get a manifold from Bullydog, PDI or the likes. I don't know about Detroit but with CAT's the stock manifolds are absolute worthless scrap metal that leaked like a sieve and had me breathing fumes constantly. I did opt for extrusion honed ceramic coated because it wasn't that much more extra and SHOULD (lest some truck driver engineer or special forces operator challenge me saying it DOES) improve flow, reduce egt's, etc.

yes, great if the truck gets 15 mpg bobtailing. But they were bobtailing from Des Moines to Youngstown. I assume that is according to a master plan or something. I think sometimes the Rutherford-heads lose sight of the fact the fuel savings is supposed to help you make money. I noticed one guy commented, "nice when all the hard work pays off". It hasn't paid off jack yet. I don't care if you get 20 mpg, bobtailing to Youngstown is still losing money.

I guess what I'm saying is if this engine now gets great fuel mileage, say avg 10 mpg pulling a mix of light, heavy, bobtail, hills, flat. Then are all the Rutherford heads going to line up at this shop in Iowa and shell out $40,000 a piece to have him build engines ? If so, we didn't learn anything.

I've heard Bruce refer to it as "jet coated". I wish I knew what that is.

I would bet the hobby truckers are now into that thing at nearly 250k now. They could have bought a hell of a nice brand new big bunk with extended warranties for that kind of money

Mine is a PDI. I don't know if they all are pretty much the same manifold or what. I don't know what jet coating is my understanding is that it's just ceramic coating nothing fancy.

You have to be careful doing that, I did the same thing and added a second Turbo 3000 and got in trouble with the EPA for putting fuel on the ground when my tanks overflow.
