If this thread stays strictly on topic it would have been done about 80 pages ago.

    What was the topic again?
    Oh,right . Staying on topic.
    .......my mind wanders sometimes.

Anyway, if I was gonna rebuild my engine, I would get it rebuilt to factory specs. I am not a big believer in aftermarket stuff. The people that designed and built it in the first place most likely knew what they were doing.

That is true enough, but you're forgetting one important factor: The manufacturer has to build the engine to meet emission standards, which result in an engine that doesn't operate to it's peak potential and efficiency.

That and the fact that the '12 & '13 model year ISX's (Or the bridge model Cats,) are proof even the manufacturers screw the pooch once in a while.

The manufacturer specs and builds and engine to maximize their profits. If you rebuild it, you have the ability to spec and build it to maximize YOUR profits. Or maximize performance, or maximize the cool factor, or whatever you want. Your money.

So Crane cams , and all other aftermarket companies have no idea what they are doing ? Because the all knowing OEMs designed the perfect product? Just right for every possible uses and applications! But of course the first mouse trap was waiting at a hole in the wall holding a big rock !
I have found many design flaws in these perfect designs. The early Cats it was a wise move to port the head and block to fit the gasket at the water return port. Many oversized radiators were sold and not really needed. People were treating a design flaw that caused overheating . But the all knowing OEM , said the OEM radiator was more then enough. And let's not forget pressing a plastic impeller on a stainless shaft in the water pump. Just a matter of time before the shaft was just spinning in the stopped impeller. How can that be , it was a perfect OEM part! Real world problems show up in the real world , the world finds the cure.

CAT C-15 6nz. 1.1 million miles. Still running. Cools fine.
Grossing 80k traveling on I-24 westbound climbing Monteagle : 52 mph in 17th gear. Good enough for me.

By time they got to the C15 , the real world had done 50+ years of R and D for CAT ( and all others) . How long had Cummins been building engines before the 5.9 Cummings ? Yet it had the Killer dole pin. 50/50 chance when she comes out it completely kills the engine. Aftermarket has a kit to fix it . Great engine but the KDP needs to be fixed, before it drops out. Cummins , if not mistaken still claims it is not a issue. Yet redesigned the engine. ISX piston cooling jets clogging is also not an issue. Nor it clogging oil filters. My CAT days were with the 3406 A and B . But sure there are issues with them all!

Cummins has been building motors since 1919. Cat was founded in 1925.
