Ya i googled it. The pics i saw are what we used to call the needle nose. Or at least i think that's the right truck. Super narrow hood on them. Hard to believe a big v8 could fit in there. But i don't think it looks like a 389. Or 379 or 359. Those 3 are very similar in appearance. The pictures i saw of the 351 don't look anything like them. Sure it's got a long hood with an aluminum surroundgrille, but it's much thinner.

Park one next to the other and you see the pedigree. But I was talking only about the grill surround, that it looks like Peterbilt grills on 359, 379 and 389, unlike the grill on the 350, which is the "iron nose", (even though it also is made of aluminum).

Section on that was also 4 pages long of legalize . Excluded the steer axle . Rear tractor axles , had to carry a certain % of weight . A good example of it is , look at some of Salmon Transport's trucks. They are running a live tandem . But the back axle on some of their trucks they are running a singled out tire per side . Ran dish out so it does not look as noticeable , but you can tell. That cuts that axle to 12,500. Or high enough in the rules above a single axle to pass .

On the L10 fuel mileage..... Best I could do was 7.3 mpg on some trips with a '98 M11 Celect+ computer. This with 4.33 rear gears, open shoulder lugs, flat terrain, 60 mph, no idling, 72k gross and 50% empty miles. Truck is not specd for mileage by any means. Part of me wonders if the fuel wasn't better suited for mileage back then. And now that I think about it.... What was the speed limit in 1986?

Was 55 MPH , and we had the clocks in to make sure our guys did not speed. They were paid by the hour , why speed.

4.33s what were you trying to move? RJR had some trucks like that , but they were shuttling grossed out loads of tobacco across town. Bought one for my brother to move his tractors , when they shut their logistics. Darn thing could idle off on the high side , in the fields.

Fuel back in the early 90's and before that was somewhere around 3,000 ppm sulphur. That got reduced by emmisions regulations sometime in the early 90's to 500 ppm max. Then in 2006 it was reduced again to 15 ppm maximum. This effectively reduced the BTU content of diesel meaning worse mpg's with lower sulphur content but a cleaner burn with less NOX.

55 mph with better fuel and we're wondering where fuel mileage went. Which brings me to my next question...... We pay fuel tax on gallons used right? How about that.
