What makes me wonder with all the backyard Detroit rebuilds that are not measuring their liner protrusions is how they hold up.

Just a thought. -
I bet the protrusion was fine at assembly. But I'd bet those sleeves are now barrels instead of cylinders, from the combination of heat and the pressure of a turned up motor operating very near torque peak (and thus peak cylinder pressures.)
