Agreed. Which is why KR is known as a snake oil salesman. The fact that this happened just proved what you said. All the additives and add ons don't mean anything.

 

RL while I agree with most of what you posted the oem manufacturer also has other things to consider .... And performance or fuel economy may not be at the top of their list..... Unit price , parts availability and their bonuses are all in play .....

That may be true but when I was talking to them last year about getting an engine built, they all explained to me two important things. The only bonus I know of is when the company makes good profits. anywho ... first is that they can't build a one size fits all engine for all the applications and the other is that if someone knows what they are doing, most of the gains can be made through the ECM without messing with things like emissions. I have since had one of my trucks tuned by the dealer - updating the firmware which was tweaked by the manufacturer for a fee and it made a huge difference.

 

My Fitz Peterbilt has the Clarke engine, it came with the bigger Borg-Warner turbo, ceramic coated manifold, bigger oil cooler, and 3yr-300k warranty. So they must offer these features on both engines regardless if its a Fitzgerald or Clarke motor.

Yes they have facilities in several states, they are a authorized DD distributer. The one clarke shop ive been to was just like a regular truck garage, they have a parts counter, several service bays and the norm. So im assuming Clarke has a shop dedicated to engines only that Fitzgerald is getting their crated 12.7 motors from?

Agreed. There are always compromises to be made. OEMs have to balance cost, durability, power, efficiency, emissions, noise, ease of manufacture/assembly, ease of service, weight, etc.

There are real gains to be made, but they don't come without downsides. Beware of anyone pushing the pros of a modification without mentioning the cons...
