I used to listen to him, and I decided what would work for me and what wouldn't. When he read some study that drivers who slowed down lost only 9 miles a day, I knew he was full of it.
I used to haul from Chicago to Cincinnati. It is 300 miles, so a round trip could be made, even with diverting for a reload in 11 hours, and as it was drop and hook, it could be done within 14, if you drove the speed limit. I drove slower to get better mileage, and I couldn't do it. The guys who drove the speed limit did 4 loads in 4 days and slept at home. I did 4 loads in 5 days and had to sleep in the truck. 9 miles, my foot!

More like 40-50 miles per day. He really has no idea what he's talking about.

I used to get passed by other trucks going to the same receiver, and I would see them coming back 20 miles out. That's 40 miles right there.

I like the fact that he is on the "air" talking about the business of trucking. I like the possibility of idea generation he brings.

If you were to walk in off the street and tell a radio executive that you wanted to do a show about the business of trucking, geared only toward owner ops, you would be laughed to the curb. So you know it took a lot of work for him to get where he is.

Some of that work no doubt involved a great deal of self promotion. And he probably needed the help of some industry partners along the way. So I can understand & forgive the advertorial portions of the show.

I can't forgive downright deceit -- like when a caller noted a mpg loss from a KR hypothesized-as-fact lift axle and Rutherford had the audacity to tell him it was an aerodynamic issue & that a Flow Below would solve the problem.

So I don't think it is toll poppy syndrome -- I'm happy Warren Buffett is rich. I'm happy that after struggling for nearly 20 years, Sia is finally a massive success.

But, like seeing predatory timesharer David Siegel face forclosure on America's largest mansion, there is some guilty schadenfreude in seeing a what I'd like to believe is karma at work.

Hey, I've got an idea ! Remove the piston /rod and close off the cylinder. Then run it on 5 cylinders.
That's a 1/6 th reduction in fuel usage RIGHT THERE! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna build a cylinder reduction kit and sell it on the internet !!!

Those engine designers are dumb. The answer was right there all the time !

I'm not going to jump on the KR hater wagon, I don't have a dog in the fight. I drive a company truck, make exceptionally good money and no matter where I put my foot the fuel mileage will stink because 99% of the time I'm wide, tall and long so most of his MPG advice would do nothing for me anyway. Heck half the time I can't even get up to Prime speed let alone the mind bending speeds KR preaches of 57 mph.

However today while listening to his show I have decided on my own the this guy will give expert advice on things he knows absolutely nothing about. A driver had been having issues with inverters and KR decided to "educate" him about the difference between modified sine and pure sine inverters. Well the ability of any given inverter to maintain steady current has nothing to do with the sine wave. However more expensive pure sine converters likely will be constructed better and as a side benefit may in fact have more stable voltage.

Anyway I'm not going into the science behind modified versus pure sine because I'm far from having enough knowledge to "educate" someone else but any little respect I did have for KR before today went out the window when he became an instant expert instead of saying something like "I'm not sure about that, let me research it and get back to you!"

I'm with DY. It's entertaining with a little value offset by bad answers. I can count on at least one caller on each episode to draw KR into explaining how EGR works or why it's used (he can't, even after having at least one caller I heard set him straight on the topic) and diagnosing electrical problems (how many volts does a battery hold anyway?).

With this latest event involving the KR mobile home toter, I wonder if he'll call on his sponsors to hook him up with even more mpg saving stuff. Oh wait. I think I know already LOL.

I listened off and on when I had XM/Sirius. I haven't had XM in my truck for a few years now. Came with my 2013 pickup and now my 2015 pickup, but I let it lapse after the trial period on the first one and will on the 2015 as well. I just don't listen to much of anything on it that is worth my money. When I want to listen to something, iHeart radio app or podcasts of shows on my iPhone hooked to the USB in my truck stereo gives me what I want for free. And many radio programs and such that XM doesn't carry anyway. And a darn good commercial free Jazz station on iHeart that rivals anything XM ever put on the air.
