Completely agree. I heard that show and I understand electronics, including the differences in inverters. His answer was completely wrong and misguided the caller.
I also lost most of any respect for him on that show. He needs to learn how to admit that he doesn't know an answer and needs to educate himself.

His repeated bashing of emissions trucks is getting old too, most of the new SCR trucks are a mile better than first gen DPF trucks.

Yeah, he wouldn't like me, I drive a 2015 with all the wrong gears, tires, driver etc and I pull oversize on double drops and my mileage to date is 6.1

In some ways the KR way is as bad as a big box lease op deal. Save every penny you can to get into an old truck, meaning you'll live like you're on welfare as you save, then run around hauling cheap loads at 57mph to be able to make it pay, then invest all your profits in the products he advertises and gets commission from, use his accounting software and soon get his company to do your taxes, meaning you'll still be living as if you're on welfare until you have put six figures into your old junkyard dog buying all the bits and pieces.

And then metal fatigues shatters your dream (and your engine) and the truck goes to the junkyard where it should've gone in the first place.

As much as I like older trucks, it is hard to argue with you. Most carriers have an age limit on trucks, and that is about 5-7 years. It has been like that for years. Yes there are 30-40 year old trucks out there, but they are few and far between, and even the 2002 is 13 years old, with a million plus.

You can spend it on replacement parts or payments take your pick.

One of the business philosophies outlined by KR is to rebuild/maintain an older truck, his contention that it is more cost effective than the purchase of the problem laden post 2008 trucks. I just took a tour of the Fitzgerald assembly operation in Byrdstown TN. The representative giving the tour admitted that their trucks cost the same as a new one, and they get about the same MPG. Their advantage is uptime.
And the flaw in the older truck thing is any carrier that will lease an older truck is simply not going to pay the same revenue as one that contracts and pays for newer equipment. All of the carriers who lease owner operators have done the math.
Soooo, you do have a choice, find a good paying carrier willing to pay for later model equipment and fulfill that requirement with a glider or new truck, or go with 2nd tier carriers. That is what I do.
The mistake made by some is having and paying for a newer truck(payments) and working for a 2 nd tier carrier. The revenue side of the equation that KR doesn't spend much time on is a key element In other words, don't give your services away too cheaply...

Keeping an old truck on the road ain't rocket science. To each his own but I prefer no payments and carriers who know that the best drivers run old equipment. They want you in new trucks so you have to run to make those payments instead of a guy like me who sits at home with no payments.

I never understood the thinking that guys with payments work harder. Ive had both and the reality is that with normal payments your only working a few extra days a month to cover them... hardly worth thinking about.

Wonder if KR would help me if I pulled one of my O'l trucks out of mothballs? Mainly the one with a 430hp Detroit.. 12513 / 44,000 / 463 ratio, on Hendrickson with a double frame. Lol... I'm sure he would disconnect the call. Naw he wouldn't do that his job is to "help" everyone right?
