I dont run my truck over 60.

At 75 mph it would cost me a rough approx 5 gallons of fuel or $3.899x5= $19.50 extra every 90 miles.

At 270 miles = $58.48 extra on fuel

    At 2700 miles = $584.85 extra (in a week's avg mileage)

    At 27,000 miles = $5848.50 (in approx 3 months)

At 135,000 miles = $29,242.50 extra on fuel in approx 1 year.

Yea the only time and I do mean only time I run over 72 is when I need ti get the load there and schedule is messed up...or I need to make it home to mama...other then that my cruise is on and I let the truck do her job...I like to see my money not burning it up in fuel

I went L/O after 6 months of solo driving. I haven't regretted it. I make good money and have a relatively easy life doing a regional run twice a week.

Cash is King! Set your maint account up to be at least 10 cpm, maybe a touch higher. Sooner or later the truck will demand it of you.

Fuel is the number one cost. Learn to drive efficiently and you will earn more.

Find a shop you can trust. This is the hardest thing to do. A poorly running engine will bleed you dry, half by fuel and half by shops charging you for things that didn't need to get fixed.

There is nothing...nothing...that being a company driver will prepare you for being an owner.

    Good Luck!!

There is nothing...nothing...that being a company driver will prepare you for being an owner:biggrin_2555:Yeah right , no need to learn routing , scaling , make contacts , figure out your basic costs and maint routines all the while being paid by your company, just go buy a truck and learn it on your own time & dime..

and what point is that ? The point he has no clue of what a person can learn working for others before making the jump to being an O/O

im fairly new to the o/o world, I would continue to do your homework, get yourself organized, have some cash saved up, but I will never work as a company driver again, if you wanna live on 50000, a year that's fine, but the key is to prepare and plan on the worse, that way when you are down you wont be panicked. good luck

I have asked several ic's there and have gotten about a 50/50 response. Some say they are doing great and others say not so great so I am not sure what to think about that. I have seen a couple of the drivers settlement statements and they looked good to me but who knows.

I don't really have any complaints as a company driver but my thinking is if I am going to stay out OTR it would be nice to make a little more money. Otherwise I might as well find a local job making the same and be home every day.
