After fuel money and true profit, really differ from person to person. And it depends on the person's business and operating cost management. There are people out there profiting more from 1.30 a mile loads then some running at 3.40 a mile.
My first couple of years as an O/O my all mile average was less than 1.50 and I paid off my truck in two and a half years, all while first year paying $1300 a month for insurance. In contrast I listened to a caller on KR's satellite radio show that claimed he was making close to 4 a mile running 120k miles a year and he complained he couldn't afford new tires for his truck, he had to buy recaps.

Since you can land a job at home for $60,000 a year, be home every night confusing is over. Take the job and forget about trucking. If you were talking about 20 to 25000 dollars a year then maybe take the chance but most likely you probably would not like it anyways. Over the road, gone for days is not for everyone.
