kind of wierd question

How far from home is orientation? Will you be assigned a truck right away or will you go back home after? The company I work for (flatbed) lets you bring your own car to orientation then when you are done you are assigned a truck and a trailer to take to the terminal where you are going to be based out of then they put your vehicle on the trailer for you to take back.

Keep in mind, there are just a few companies that hire from your area.

Check the job market !!

 

get an open round trip bus ticket or airline ticket, or train ticket. usually most trucking companies pay for your bus ticket ONE WAY......you want to be able to return home, right....??? if you get hired, they pay the bus fare home. if they kick you out, you are on your own getting home......

you could be driving a few hundred miles, or literally down the street....

have "plastic" in your wallet, or extra money for "just in case".....

and STOP planning so far ahead.......you got to get through school first.....

so let me ask you a few questions that might help weed out your future plans...

1) do you have ANY criminal background..??

2) do you have a bad driving record..??

3) are you unable to pay for school...??

4) have you used (or still use) drugs..??

5) are you an alcoholic...??

if you answered YES to just ONE question, you ain't about to be driving any time too soon.....

just the facts..........and the facts of life.....

 

then you NEED to start drinking........

do not worry about orientation till you have an affirmative job offer, NOT a pre-hire.

keep us up to date with your progress......

 

if you have a family then just make sure that this is the right career path. many people swear it is until they go otr and it puts a strain on things like relationships with kids and/or marriage, gf, or bf. not trying to rain on your parade but save you time just in case. good luck though. also you could always call and see if you can take your personal vehicle
