Ok my bf has been driving for 3mths now and out of training for about a mth. I have already seen how the pay can fluctuate. Ok so now here is my question: when filling out something that asks for yrly income level, how would I figure it? With many jobs it's easy to figure out but not with driving. The only way I can think of is to pick an average of the miles he's done so far but from what I understand from here that may increase come spring. Plus that doesn't include things like tarp pay, layover pay, ect.
Just trying to get things understood since I do all our personal bookkeeping and paperwork. Thank you in advance and may the angels of the road watch over each of you.
Kinda dumb ? Re: figuring income

you wouldn't be trying to buy things on your bf's credit would you ? lol. Usually when they ask for yearly income you would go with an average over the previous 5 years, not an estimate on the coming year.

$23-25K a year tends to be the norm for the first year rookie. But that will depend a lot on what kind of freight he's pulling. You mention tarp pay so I'm guessing he's pulling open deck freight. I don't know what a rookie would make but I made $42K my first year flatbedding. I really all depends though. Everyone is different and works at different paces, places and no one company pays exactly alike.

Me personally I would take what he made the last month multiply it by 12. If you are trying to budget your expenses I think I would do the same with a nice give or take of 200 dollars. It's not like the feds are going to come after you if you didn't give the right estimation. Also by the end of the year he probably will be with another carrier or you will get sick of the roller coaster pay and find a new BF.

Ordinarily I wouldn't have a problem with using his past yrs income but since he started driving, it's increased dramatically. Also one of the reasons for trying to figure it out is for insurance purposes. His co offers ins but 1) I wouldn't be covered and 2) it's $150 a week for him and our kids. Therefore I am trying to find what we can afford before we loose our current coverage. We definately can't afford that as bf is diabetic, son #1 attends vision therapy, and son #2 has asthma.

Long long story lol

Forget miles, forget tarp pay. Just look at the total 1099 income BEFORE taxes are taken out. Average that number to figure out your annual pay. Freight may pick up and it may not, but you cant base your annual on what might happen.
