If you need that much sleep every night, you might as well look for another job.

Take a bottle of Nyquil and use it. Yes, it does help with a restful sleep while the truck is moving.

For some of us 8 hours sleep is very unusual. I've gone for years with 4 - 6 hours sleep a night; sometimes just 3 hr. a night. Doctors say that's a death sentence for an early demise, but that's not true for all of us.

The hardest thing for me to get used to wasn't not getting 8 a night, it was not having a regular sleep schedule. There are times you will drive during the day into the evening and there are times you will drive through the night. You just never know. Heck there have been times i have driven all night to deliver a load early in the a.m. then have to take my 10 just to find out there was no load for me until the next morning. So I went from driving all night to having to be up and ready to roll in the early a.m. within a period of 36 hours or less. The thing is you drive when the freight needs you to as long as you have the hours on your clock to do so. Honestly if you can't function without getting 8 hours of sleep then this is the wrong line of work for you IMO.

Crazytrucker 77 said it right. Try unloading in Laredo at 08:00 and your dispatcher can get you moving until 1800. Slept all night now they want to to sleep all day in a noisy ### hot ### truckstop then drive until 0700 the next day. Get there feeling like a crackhead.
