Kindle (or any ebook reader), who's got one, and how do you like it?

I've got a Kindle 3G, and it's the best thing since bottled beer! I've been trucking since '86, and only had a TV for a couple of months before I decided it wasn't worth it to me--didn't like TV that much anyway, and there wasn't that good enough reception on the road. I've always been a reader, but truckstops didn't have much, if any, of a selection, and besides, I'd read a book, and not want to throw it away if it was good, thinking I might want to read again, sometime later. So I ended up with beau coupe books in the sleeper!

Kindle is great, I can buy books anywhere I have a cell phone connection, and it can hold up to 3000 books! I think that most drivers don't read for pleasure, but if you do, this is the greatest piece of tech to come down the line since the cell phone! IMHO, of course.

I have the Sony pocket ereader, and I love it. Only issue it has is it doesn't do wifi/3g gotta connect it through a computer/laptop. I really like the fact that it supports multipule formats. BTW if you like scifi books check out http://www.webscriptions.net you can get them there cheaper then most places, and the are available in multipule formats.

My wife got me a 3G Nook when they first came out. I also bought a wifi Nook since then to replace the 3G due to an unfortunate incident with my sink's dish soap dispenser.

I went with the Nook since I had about $300 in B&N gift cards from my Parents-in-law and I have no regrets. I really do like the online store from Amazon better than B&N but, I think the small color touchscreen on the Nook is a better input device than the Kindle's kb/e-ink screen combo. The other thing that I REALLY like about the Nook is the ability to download from Google's book project. I've read quite a few of the public domain classics from Google.

we use the reader on the Iphone. it's nice but to be honest I love books. I love not only reading but the actual books. Something about the words on pages. Yes, I know it's weird. lol

Both the Nook and the Kindle are like reading an actual book. The display isn't a back-lit computer screen, they use some kind of LCD technology that doesn't require back-lighting. The background is off-white, the text is black, it's identical to reading a book. I don't think I could handle reading a book on the iphone. My daughter has a Nook, and I gotta say, I'd like to have one myself.

I have a 3G nook and it's really nice to have. The upfront cost is pretty high but if you read a lot it would make up for itself in pretty short order as the books are (slightly) cheaper and obviously take up no space. They also have the lendme program where you can send certain books to friends as long as they also have a nook and you know each others e-mail address. I think you can keep the book for up to two weeks and then the sender 'gets' it back so to speak.

That has to be tough on the eyes not to mention the constant scrolling, or did you mean ipad? Either way, even with that you would see a huge difference in battery life (nook can go a couple weeks without charging). Like the person above said they use e-ink technology and it literally looks like a page in a book.

FYI, if you have a Nook or Kindle and buy one for your spouse or other family member they have access to all of the books that you have already purchased at no extra cost. It has to be someone that you trust, though, they will be able to make purchases on your account.
