I talked to axle surgeons. They are 30 miles from me, wanted $100 sevice fee to come out and 900 to bore both eyes. I beleive I can take the axle to a machine shop alot cheaper.
The eyes actually look good enough, that I couldn't see a problem till putting the new ones in and it went in easy enough, could turn it by hand. I hate to bore it, but I know it's got to be tighter than that.
I'm also looking into replacing the axle as to keep everything as orginal and strong as possible.

Think you'll find it'll be less headache and just as costly to just replace the axle.

I would call around first thing in the morning and see who the dealersips and truck garages use when they run in to this, if you call four or five, you will notice the same name keeps coming up if it is like around here, at the very least you might find out who not to use. This is a common problem and there are guys that are good at this, it is just a matter of finding them. Are you a long way from Indy, if you will check frame and alignment shops in the nearest big city or know of one, they will give you as good of information that you will find also. I have attached a link to one that does good work in my area, but here again, I couldn't guess on pricing, the economy has everything messed up and I would't hazard a guess. If you replace the axle then you will need an alignment also, and everything just keeps adding up. Hang in there and good luck.

Unless the eye is egg shape, destroyed by rust and corrosion and you can rattle the new pin in the bore, the repair you're considering really isn't necessary. I have done a slew of these that were a little rough and no problems arose. In a few cases a higher degree wedge lock was used to secure the pin, but not normally. Can you rattle the new pin in the axle eye bore?

I would recomend to use a K122E quick kit if possible. It may be more expensive but you will not need a reaming tool and it comes with a gauge to check an axle eye at least mine had one. If you can insert the gauge into the eye it needs repair, if not no repair needed. Here is
    an instruction

Beltans, I did get what seem to be the same kit but didn't come with the guage.
I did end up taking the axle out and to a machine shop in Indy "Christy's". They specialized in line boring. I found out that Indy Spring and Brake also bores the eyes. They said it should be approx. 600 with the sleeves.
Also called the Axle doctor back and told them how much cheaper it was and ask if they could come down on the price some so I could pay someone local but was told the price is firm at 950+

Now that you have the axle fixed i would take the kaiser no ream king pin kit and throw it in the dumpster. Otherwise the same thing will continue to happen. Instead get a prereamed spicer or meritor kit with the correct brass style bushings. Have put a ton of these in very easy install and wont destroy your axle

    Really
I've heard so many good comments about the kaiser spiral king pin kits.
Have you had bad luck with them?
My axle didn't have them in it before, it had standard brass bushings.

I have seen quite a few spindles that were ruined because of them. The spiral bushing eats into the spindle bore and ruins them. In my opinion the brass is a lot better option

I am the only genuine axle surgeons dealer working in southern Indiana and the price you got is way to high. our work is reasonably priced and a permanent repair. you talked to someone who is not really licensed by axle surgeons
