I am going to run a cobra 29 though it. I think I will set the deadkey at 2. What do you all think it will be putting out dead key and swing?
It the 100 watt amp and 200pep.

It will likely deadkey around 8-10 and swing to about 50-60 average. PEP numbers mean absolutely nothing because that's simply what it will "PEAK" at when it "spikes" like when you really accentuate something you say into the mic. You'll have a nice little setup that will get you up outta the mud and pretty cheap too. I have never used those amps but I have always heard good things about them. I may get myself one someday just to toy with it.

usmc I also ordered a kl203. I am putting a swing mod on it to keep the deadkey down to about 2 watts. However I want a clean rig frequency wise. I'll disconnect the Ch9 Emergencv switch and use it for Normal/Low power. No changes will be made to the VR4 modulation pot.
I'm not sure what biasing our amp uses but even Class C should be clean if it's not pushed to the max. I have a dummy load I built but it's only 10 watt (and 50 ohm not 52). Once I get a real dummy load I'll find out what deadkey value it needs before getting dirty and/or running too hot. RM Italy doesn't recommend any specific input power; input of .5 to 10 watts and 100 watts max output/AM.
What I really want to do is find another Power on/Volume/Squelch control to replace the SWR Cal pot so I can keep the Ch9 switch (and use it for Ch19) and have Cal on the outer knob and (variable) Power on the inner knob. That leaves a set of SPST contacts for a future mod, since Cal is not used during normal operation. I need to check the values and tapers on the Power on control and Cal pot.
If you want the Variable swing mod let me know.
Edit: The KL203P (that we're supposed to be getting) is running four RM3 MOSFETs in a push/pull configuration. The input comes in direct to a (impedance?) matching transformer to the MOSFETs. I guess this is the latest configuration. Maybe they designed it for a nominal 4 or 5 watt input? IE a stock CB?

I am hopping for a good clean sound that still get out. I am buying a 93t to use in my personal truck and we are going to run a stock 29 as of now for my road tractor and I want to put the little amp in it just to experment and later I will put it in another personal vehicle. I in a review they say not to run over a 2 watt deadkey with it even though they say you can run up to 10. I don't want to destroy it and the sound quality of it. So maybe I will try and do the same as you and get a swing kit mod done before the radio is shipped. We are still hagling about which 29 to buy. Doug has a sweet deal on a 29 with NW and the mosfet final and recieve upgrades but I also here that sound tracker radios are not that great. So we may go with a bluetooth 29 with the NW.

It has more then enough power the way it is. I realy only bought that amp becuase it was on sale and to expierment alittle.
rambler Thanks this. -
I have a uniden 520xl with the kl-203 amp and it's pushing around 80 watts it has worked well with me.
I use my lil radio with the tri-mag mount either with the 102' or with the Francis 5.5 and it seems to reach out really far and I get good feedback for a very small radio your set up should do even better than mine. -
If you bought a Galaxy 93t...DO NOT run that radio with a KL203P! You will fry that little Amp using a 93t...The 93T on low will DK 2w's...But it will swing 50+ watts...You can run something like a Texas Star 250 or 350 with the 93t...
I have had 3 93t's and their great radios, and I still have one with Blue LED's which is my back-up radio now, and when I was running one all the time I ran it with a Texas Star 500V and it sounded great...Just be sure to always have the power switch set on LOW when running a Amp, or you will smoke your Amp quick.
When you see they say the Amp will take anywhere from a 0.5 to 10w DK...I think they maybe saying it can take up to a 10w swing, and not a 10w DK...There's not any small Amps I have ever seen that can take a 10w DK, and not burn up on the first Key... -
Poop I just bought a 29 nw radio that has a 3 watt dead key and mosfet up grade along with better recieve up grades I was going to test the water on the new amp with. It also has a swing kit. Id say it may be swings 30 watts or so the way its set up. Maybe I shouldnt try it with them amp. The radion I bought is this posted along with the 93t Just got both in today.

What your alls imput? can I put the amp behind it? -
If you're going to run the 203 Amp why do the mosfet upgrade? To KILL something?
